Since I have not seen any comments about the ABIT IC7, I thought I would ask if anyone has had any problems. My pc died a couple of weeks ago. There was that somethings cooking odor in the air. I did not see the obvious when I opened the can. The power supply is good. I just learned about the capacitor issue and found this site. I'll pull my board and give it a closer inspection. Thanks

Re: Abit IC7
i have an ic7-g .
after installing a zallman cpu cooler i smelled smoke a little but then the smell went away there was a capacitor in the way when i nstalled the cooler so i pushed it over a little (bad idea) anyway now the board wont allow me to hyperthread without freezing up. i've been going in circles for a long time maybe 5 months trying to get answers and now the problem seems verry clear
to me.
I've got 4 gig of memory a killer corsair 750 watt psu and pentium 4 3.4ghz northwood in that rig but my 3.0 ghz prescott on my old dell (nothing fancy) blows it away
anyhow I'm probably going to recap it.
I know its an old board but it was my first build and i would hate to see it go. -
Re: Abit IC7
An oldie but a goodie. I am planning on recapping an IC7-G Max II board, with same or better spec'd caps. I have a flight simulator that uses multiple computers, and some of the old machines are better utilized than the new ones actually. The IC7-G was one of the greatest motherboards of all time, and I won't let that machine die.Comment

by FoetussHi all
Hope this is in the correct place.
I'm planning on recapping both motherboards. I actually already ordered recplament caps for them, where I will be changing out most for poly's.
Could use some double checking to see if I'm not doing something stupid.
Pictures of the boards are attached.
What I will be replacing with what : (planned)

by ziplockGreetings,
I have an Abit BE6-II motherboard that posts sporadically with the bare minimum components installed - CPU, RAM, PSU, and a Keyboard. I know it posts when the speaker beeps. Re-seating the components has no effect.
I thought the sporadic posting might be capacitor related. Upon inspection, non of the caps are bulged or leaking and they are all original. So, I pulled them ALL. While the ESR is OK, over half of them are leaking current between 1 and 2 mA. The biggest offenders are way out of spec, like a 1500uf / 6.3V measuring 2600uF and many of the 820uF caps... -

by tbalint3Hello All,
I am trying to repair an old Abit ST6-R motherboard.
The symptoms are the following:
I got it in a non-working state. I was told that it sometimes turned on, but many times just the CPU fan was spinning and no other signs of life, the board didn't POST, and now it doesn't POST at all.
It was full of bulged electrolytic capacitors, so I replaced all of them with new Low-ESR ones, but it didn't solve the problem.
If I install a CPU in the S370 socket, only the fans are spinning and no POST. There are no beep codes even if the RAM DIMMs...3 Photos -
by N3StarHello,
previously I gave up on this MoBo, but here we are again. For starters I'll give a link to previous thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=95433
What has changed:
- I still don't have a PCI GPU, but I have a PCI dignostic board
- I measured the temperature and drain resistances of these hot MOSFETs:
(right) 3.3V line: 100Ohms, gets up to ~80C,
(left) 1.5V line: 430Ohms, gets up to ~65C
What PC diagnostic says:
-without GPU: goes through all post codes, keyboard is responsive, after hitting F1 key post codes go all... - Loading...
