    Is this Asus A8S dead?

When I attempt to power the board, the CPU fan spins for a second, then nothing. If I try to power it in again, nothing will happen until I unplug the PSU and replug. I only have a green standby LED. I've tried basic stuff, different RAM, even different CPU. But still nothing. However, I removed the CMOS battery and it did stay on, but I had no GPU or POST card installed so I don't know if it actually worked. Attempted more combinations of removing and reinserting the CMOS battery, to no avail, I'm assuming it was a coincidence. Also tried putting pressure on the CPU, and the finger test, nothing was burning hot. I've also (tried, very awkward by yourself and when you have little workspace) To power on the board and see if there was any voltage across the VRM high/low caps. I didn't get a reading at all, but I could give that one another try when I have an extra set of hands.

Final thing I've tried was recap the VRM low side with Nichi polys, Asus used KZGs and I didn't trust them. There was another KZG I changed by the NB with a Panny FR. Still resulting in the same symptoms!

From what I can see, nothing looks charred, corroded or otherwise looks like it blown up.

Beyond capacitors and basic troubleshooting, I'm stumped!

UPDATE: Totally embarrassing, mods, feel free to delete this thread . Or it can be a reminder, we all make mistakes

I was using a fairly new, cheap Rosewill Arc 450w. Never occorud to try another PSU. Anyway, I tried a Bestec for fun. I got it to stay on longer. Intrigued, I got a Newton Power, same deal as the Bestec. Neither had a 24 pin connector, however. Both were 24 pin.

So, I dug out my trusty (was being used somewhere else) Lite On PS-5301. It fired right up and posted!

At least I got a new VRM

This sort of explains an issue I'm having with a P4S5A I recently recapped. The thing won't fire up using my trusty bench HX650W without a power cycle or 2. It turns the fans for a second then won't flinch. Didn't think about the 5v rail thing. It must be right on the edge at 20A being a 20-pin motherboard. But once it boots up it doesn't stop.
