    Sapphire ATI HD3850 AGP

    Hi guys,
Back in 2010 I've recapped my motherboard ASRock 4coreDual-SATA2 R2.0 from United Chemi-Con TMZ (general) and Panasonic FJ (CPU voltage) to all Rubycon MCZ. (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=12273)
Over 50 caps to replace; everything went fine, but no serious performance improvement. It was just recap for fun.
The caps were ordered from CapKing, a reliable source (sorry for mentioning, it's your competitor, but I live in Romania and shipping costs were important for me). Last MCZ stock, just after then Rubycon decided to stop producing MCZ series. The caps were fresh, produced in 2010 and looked genuine.

Now, in 2012, as I still have a few MCZ left from that order, I've decidee to play again the recap game and replace the United Chemi-Con KZG from the graphical card Sapphire ATI HD3850 AGP - just 3 caps, 2 x 680 μF/16V and 1 x 1500 μF/6.3V. The video card is older than the Rubycons, it's made in 2009, so there is not an issue of replacing fresh caps with 2-years stored MCZ.
Well, the problem is that the HD38500 won't work at all with - the 1500 μF MCZ will only output 8-bit colors, and the otherw MCZ will just restart computer a few times a day. Replacing with the old ones... and voila - it work like a champ!
I've checked caps with capacimeter and ESR meter, the ESR is very low, just like in specs, the capacity is slightly lower on all Rubycons I've received, but just a bit, nothing serious.

So, I don't understand, are Rubycon MCZ, the electrolytic cap series with the best specs ever worst that United Chemi-Con KZG? There are special aspects just for video cards and only those KZG fit there or the MCZ are not genuine? Looking back, the motherboard recap was a good thing or... ?

Thank you guys, any idea is welcomed.

there is also ripple to take into effect here. Usually its not an issue but somehow I think this cards vrm might be sensitive to it.

      Re: Sapphire ATI HD3850 AGP

The 680uF MCZ are rated for 1850mA ripple & 0.018Ω ESR
The 680uF KZG are rated for 1490mA ripple & 0.028Ω ESR

So they might be too good and cause the circuit to become unstable.
This is quite common is powersupplies where the whole Pi Filter is designed or better said tuned for the components used in the circuit

So, probably it's a case of "too good for this one" I guess you're right, video cards' output frequency is very important and any replaced component might change the equilibrium.
Thank you for your support guys.

          Sapphire Radeon RX5700XT IR35217 configuration
          by PeqNP
          Hi,

I have a faulty Sapphire Radeon RX5700XT with a short on the 3.3V PCIe rail. I was able to trace the short to the IR35217 which is responsible for managing VCore. The issue with these controllers is, that they need to be configured. I managed to get hold of a copy of PowIRCenter as well as a compatible USB flash device. What remains is, that I don't have the IR35217 configuration for that card. Does someone here own this card and can share this configuration? As this is a reference card design I would suspect that any other reference card would do the trick as well. The configuration...

sapphire 5700xt NB691 buck wrong output
          by pedrolopesbe
          Hello there!

So, I have this sapphire nitro+ that is a pain as there's no diagrams of this specific model anywhere. Put that together with the fact I'm just learning.

This buck converter is giving me 275 mV output when it should give 1.8V, I'm not sure what exactly modulates this converter and I'm going to spend the day learning about converters.
Could be a faulty one, but I've already replaced it one time, have just another one left. I don't wanna mess up the other one if this is something damaging the component when I turn the card on.

          Ah, I don't...

What is this component? RX570 4GB SAPPHIRE PULSE
          by tls 123
Hello! I am a newbie and I'd like to ask for your help regarding a certain part in my RX570 4gb Sapphire Pulse... I had it diagnosed and the two technicians said that the cause of my bad gpu (shorted) is because of this certain component which they have no reserve for. I have the option to find a donor board that I can bring to them or buy a new component and have them replace it, I tried to search for the component but I cant quite find it... some text is written AEAH 037. Please, and thank you for helping!...

          Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 8GB GPU 12V short
          by Swell61
          Hi

I picked up a faulty Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 8GB. It was pretty clean, expect from what looked like residue around the thermal pad between the rear of the board and backplate for helping to cool the memory, so I am guessing it had some liquid spilled on it at some point. All I was told is "the screen went black when playing a game".

The 12V external power appears to have a short. The two fuses have blown (circled in red on the image) and I am measuring low resistance (1.6 Ohms) on the output of the fuses to ground. When I inject power at the output of the fuses,...
