ASUS P4P8X finding the right caps for replacing

    Hi,

I have an ASUS P4P8X Motherboard with some broken caps and want to know wich I should to replace and wich types should be still good for further use.

lifthanger wrote some recommendations in an other thread and meant to keep the "KZE" Caps, is that right?
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...52&postcount=9

    The Broken Caps:
marked green (color: dark-blue with gold print)
    RLZ
    105°C
    0340

    OST
    6.3V
    1500uF

    Additional Caps:
marked red (color: dark-green with white print)
    (M)105°C
    3(7)
    0V

    KZE
    16v
    1200uF

    and more 1000uF caps:
marked blue (color: black with white print)
    RLS
    105°C
    0341

    OST
    6.3 v
    1000uF
    thanks
    nico

See the P4C800 Poly mod thread:

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=13001

    Bumblebee's:
    https://www.badcaps.net/store/produc...products_id=76

Except for the Green one at the Northbridge. Unknown voltage there, so stay with the 6.3v cap. Nichicon HZ or Rubycon MCZ.

The open cap spot at the end of the RAM slots:

the green Caps have 16v and 1200uF, wich are maybe United Chemicon wich may still good:
marked red (color: dark-green with white print)
      (M)105°C
      3(7)
      0V

      KZE
      16v
      1200uF

      here a little replacement map:
      RLZ - 105°C - 0340 - OST - 6.3V - 1500uF -> Rubycon MBZ,MCZ, or Nichicon HN,HZ ???
      (M)105°C - 3(7) - 0V - KZE - 16v - 1200uF -> may be United Chemicon wich have not to be replaced
      RLS - 105°C - 0341 - OST - 6.3 v - 1000uF -> Rubycon ZL or what types will fit else?

      thanks a lit

RLZ doesn't have published specs. I usually replace with MCZ or equivalent. It fits given the generation of hardware.

Another option is to replace the RLZ with polymers, using around half the capacitance: https://www.badcaps.net/store/produc...products_id=76 You can use polymer for the ones near the CPU. Keep the one near the chipset as a 6.3V cap if you go this route, as Toasty mentioned.

KZE is reliable and doesn't need to be replaced.

RLS is a ZL equivalent. Replace with Rubycon ZL, UCC KZE, Nichicon HD for an exact spec match. Panasonic FM would be a small upgrade. MBZ and MCZ would exceed the original specs, but would work just fine too.

          >>the green Caps have 16v and 1200uF, wich are maybe United Chemicon wich may still good:<<

Not according to the picture. The GREEN ones in the picture.

The KZE's are the RED ones. Don't get this confused. No one can see the sleeves or colors from this Google picture.

          >>is the P4C800 similar to P4P8X at the caps?<<

If you read the thread that I said, it shows the caps to be replaced and with what. The boards are identical when it comes to the caps. Same era of Asus. Read Post #8 there and compare your caps to those. IDENTICAL, except you're not counting the tiny caps. I do.

If you want to do a 1/2 way job, then leave the KZE's. You're talking about saving $3 in caps... Just so you can have problems later and go back and do it again?

Remember that the KZE's filter the incoming power and precede the ones at the CPU VRM. Plus the fact that this board is how many years old now? 5?
