    EVGA eGeforce 8400GS, 256MB DDR2 P/N:256-P2-N732-LR bad capacitor FZ76 1500 6.3V

i have a video card (EVGA eGeforce 8400GS, 256MB DDR2 P/N:256-P2-N732-LR) that has a bad capacitor (FZ76 1500 6.3V [looks silver with blue writing, sealed, has the letter K perforated on the top]) i need to know where to buy a replacement, and what the resistance etc... of them are so i get the right one.

    OH NO!!!! Sacon FZ alert!

you need to do a full recap on it. any caps starting with FZ need to go.

for replacement, you have 2 options: direct replacement or poly mod.

direct replacement is using low esr electrolytic caps with the same values. simplest... and since you are using an EVGA card, you need not worry about lead spacing since the ground side is likely double holed to accept both common spacings. this is the easiest and cheapest method.

poly mods are the use of polymer capacitors to replace the 'lytics. poly mods require a bit of investigation as poly caps tend to come in a different range of voltages. the simple test is to run the card under no load (bios) and to use a multimeter to measure the voltage across the cap. since you are using 6.3v on the old, my guess would be that 4v polys would work. you also need to divide the capacitance (uf) by 2 more or less since the ESR of polys is much lower. the advantage to polys is that they are virtually immune form failure (if you use good ones).

either option should fix it... the owner of the forum actually bought a lot of dead evga 7600GT cards with blown FZ's... he did a couple in lytics and poly modded the rest... I have one of the poly cards myself, the recap will spawn new life into it.

where do you live (country)? if in the US/canada, the badcaps.net store has the caps you will need whether you poly mod or not. if you live elsewhere, post your location...
