Is it possible to run 5 DIMMs in an Asus P9X79?
This board is a 4-channel board, and I have 4 matching and one odd DIMM.
BIOS seems to acknowledge all 5 DIMMs in BIOS, probably by SPD, but it seems to map them wrong and it reports only half the RAM I expect, both in BIOS and in Linux.
Is this simply an unsupported combination?
The manual seems to indicate 1 DIMM is fine as well as 2, 3, 4, 6, and then 8, but no mention of 5.
I'm not sure if 7 is supported either. Are newer boards more picky on RAM configs?
