    elna re3 on asrock 775 v88+

    Hy guys!
    I'm from Rome Italy so forgive me if my English isn't perfect.
    Congratulations to the authors for the website!!!

    Well I have a P4 computer, with a lot of cooling, to which I'm very attached and that I used to overclock raising fsb speed from 200 MHz to 218 MHz (from 3400 MHz to 3700 MHz). Over this threshold I had memory errors with memtest. Now since few days ago it started to give me memtest errors from just 208 MHz. This must be certainly due to caps degradation. In my PC I use an ati HD3850 and so I'm VERY cpu - limited... in fact in this situation I loose about 450 3d Mark 2006 points.
    This is really annoying! So I disassembled my pc and now I have my motherboard on the table. It is ASRock 775 V88+.
    This afternoon I bought all the replacing caps and an outstanding Lafayette mini soldiering station. I was starting to replace the caps but I decided to check the datasheet of the new caps I just bought and I saw that their declared ESR is not so low. These caps are branded ELNA and the series is RE3.
    I saw on the web that these caps are more often used in power supplies rather than on motherboards.
    May I use these caps or I risk to burn my mobo? It is working now! I only complain memory errors in overclock.
    My real purpose is to obtain stable behaviour at higher frequencies by replacing caps with higher quality ones.
    Could any of you please tell me which caps should I use and possibly where to buy them? Here in Italy they are almost impossible to find.

    The mobo has:

    4 of 16.0V 1200 uF NCC KZE ---> height 20 mm; width 10 mm
    6 of 6.3V 3300 uF NCC KZG ---> height 24 mm; width 10 mm
    22 of 6.3V 1000 uF OST RLP ---> height and width about 9 mm
    5 of 16.0V 100 uF Teapo SS ---> height 7 mm; width 6 mm

    Thanks in advance for reading me!

    Seasonic B12 BC-550 – barely 2 years old and with BAD CAPS already!
    by momaka
    I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

    For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

    It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

    Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps
    by eryjus
    Hello,

    First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

    I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

    I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

    Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000
    by Paxman_Swede
    Hello!

    I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

    The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

    I have studied the board and...

    Asrock DeskMeet return of the bad caps
    by BigTroll
    I have had good luck with asrock products but with that said I ordered a DeskMeet X300 to use up some other components I had laying around Ryzen 3600 GTX 1060. it comes with a 500w power supply built by CWT.

    I thought CWT would use good components but no the primary cap was ChengX and the secondary had lots of chengx and JunFu caps. hope it lasts awhile. I do have a 450w SFX silverstone with teapos on the secondary I could replace it with.

    Help with switching power supply caps
    by captain150
    I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
    I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...
