Disabling SSID broadcasts sets WPS to "unconfigured"

A client of mine who had a Linksys WAG160N wireless router got a prompt under Windows 7 to configure it with security, even though it was already secured .
In that case, Windows 7 detected that the Wi-Fi Protected Setup configuration state was "unconfigured" because the SSID broadcast was disabled.
I confirmed with the same model that disabling SSID broadcast can disable Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
I find it ironic that Windows Vista and 7 detect a hidden and secured wireless access point (which supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup) as "unconfigured" and prompts you to configure it with security.
Also, Wi-Fi Protected Setup is disabled (usually with no option for enabling it) for Guest SSIDs, even if they are visible.

i can only stress what i've said before - WPS is not a standard, it's a piece of crap and causes more problems than it solves.

[REQUEST] Dell G3 3579 BIOS Password & AMI Protected Range/BIOS Guard Unlock
      by zenius
Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...

Disabling onboard ram on ASUS Zephyrus GA503QS R2.3
      by manubali
      Hi there,

I have an ASUS Zephyrus GA503QS in for repair due to BSOD issues and failed Windows installations. MemTest reports errors with the onboard RAM.

Does anyone have experience disabling the onboard RAM? I’ve seen mentions that it might be possible by editing the BIOS settings.

      Thanks!

Help Disabling Flash Protection Range Registers on Lenovo P360 Tiny BIOS
      by abhorsen
      Hey guys,

Hope you all are doing well. I come here from Win-Raid because I am having issues disabling Flash Protection Range Registers so I can flash my BIOS from within Windows using Intel's IFW tool/using flashrom within Linux, however I cannot due to the above mentioned error.

Here is my thread on Win-Raid detailing the whole process I went through: https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/re...h-gen/95478/27

Essentially I managed to boot into Windows while shorting PINs 1+5 of my audio chip to disable the HAP bit...

Technics SA-AX530 in protected mode. Overload message
      by Francesc V.
I got a request from a friend of mine to have a look to his amplifier. When switching on "OVERLOAD" was displaying, however from time to time, message disappears and protection was removed.
I took some time in visual inspection (no bold caps, no solder joins, no burnt components neither hot burnt areas). I took some time to measure transistors and diodes. Everything seemed ok.

I realized that when OVERLOAD was on, pin 13 on IC601 (RSN307M44A-P) measured 5V. From time to time, when Amplifier was not protected pin 13 measured the right -1.5V
      (Pin 13 goes through...

      Bios flashing, protected IC regions
      by traveler0091
      Hello everyone,

      Guys, need a quick help.
I'm trying to flash my laptop's bios with Clean ME.
      Laptop: DELL LATITIDE 5480,
      Motherboard: LA-E142P,
      BIOS IC: GD25B128C
      __

      Please see attached image.

The programmer shows the IC has protected regions in SREG1, SREG2, SREG3.. The only one that I can unprotect is the SREG3...

So, is this a problem? Can I flash the BIOS without unlocking the SREGs.
      Is this safe to do?

      My programmer is CH341....
