19 inch samsung powers off when VGA plugged in.

    Hi

I have a 19 inch samsung LCD monitor which turns on ok, with power lights going and no signal message on screen. However as soon as I plug the VGA cable into the monitor, the backlights switch off and the monitor seems to just shut down. I have opened the monitor up and checked the capacitors. Most are Samxon and none of them are bulged. I have removed four of the large samxon capacitors from the low voltage side of the power supply and checked these on an RCL meter, all of them tested ok. Any ideas where to go now?

    Thanks

It would help to know what Samsung model.

A clear focused set of pictures of all boards (top down, both sides) would help after reading this.

Have you tried more than one source on the VGA port?

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

      Hi

      The model is a SyncMaster 913V 19inch
Here are some photos, the capacitors circled with green are all Samxon brand and have been checked.

There is nothing wrong with the PC that I plugged into the monitor either, it has been used with many other monitors just fine.

      Thanks again

Forgot to post pictures of the back, sorry about the quality, my cameras not great..
Nothing much to see on the back of the logic board, no components and all solder joints are clean etc

Can you clear for my on second picture at righthand corner had burned mark?
If so the VGA board is bad, had short to ground when you plug VGA cable & shut off monitor.

You see the chip that says SE7889-LF?

It is defective. There is no way to fix this monitor. Even if you replace the caps.

Thanks for the reply's, The top of the board does look like it is burnt in the photo however it is actually fine. Is it still likely that the chip is defective though?

Read this article. Same exact problem - solution is what mockingbird said.

                  http://ezinearticles.com/?Samsung-71...blem&id=458167

This will be hard for a novice to replace. There is one chip being sold on ebay (ebay item number: 250646876175). That is, if you dare to try. But then again, the chip is being sold for $20. Is it worth $20 to fix this monitor?? MAYBE - Then again, it is a samsung!

Ok, thanks for all your messages guys. When I get home I will have a look at the board and make a call from then. I have a pretty decent soldering iron and have done quite a lot of soldering but I'm not sure if that will suffice!

                    Thanks again
