    Dell E153FPb failed transistor replacement

Hello, this is my first post to this forum

Having read about replacing the transistors Q743, Q739, Q740 and Q751, Q759, Q760 and resoldering the coils T752 and T751; I have possibly done something wrong because... Q743 gets immediately very hot to touch and I think the fuse would go if I didn't turn the power off.

The Q751, 759, 760 part of the circuit appears fine because when I remove Q743 all is well and the power LED lights up fine. The screen lights up and then goes off.

I have two of these monitors and have replaced T752 with no effect. I'm using direct replacements bought from a kit on ebay.

Can anyone give me some pointers as to what to try next? I'm not an electronics expert (as you can probably guess otherwise I wouldn't be posting this )

    Any help appreciated.

You may have made the same mistake that I made with this board
When replacing the transistors, I put one in the fet position thinking it was the fourth transistor position
One of the transistors is in a unusually offset position on this board
    Hope this helps
Or possibly one has been put in backwards, an easy mistake to make

      Hello Bobdee,

Thanks for your reply which was just the tonic. I looked again and would you believe I had soldered in Q739 in the wrong way in both monitors! In one monitor just swapping it around fixed it but in the other I to replace Q740 which either was already faulty or had not survived my idiocy.

On the Q759, Q760 pair they are metal side facing metal side and I just copied that with Q739, Q740 but on closer inspection the board is labeled Q759 ECB, Q760 BCE whereas the other two are BCE BCE. I think from now on I photgraph the board and check is all looks ok before switching on.

Both monitors are working fine at the moment though I wonder if the FETs will last long. Won't make that mistake again (probably will).

      Thanks again

Nice to hear some good came out of it
One little reminder on these Benq boards, I take it that you have resoldered the 4 inverter transformers, as this is believed by many to be the cause of the failure of the transistors, (if not done transistors usually fail again) also check the rest of the board for bad solder joints as its usual to have some bad solder joints elsewhere

Yes I did resolder the transformers. There are some good articles on the net and they recomended doing it. The monitors are in use and still working fine

Bias matching replacement transistor - Parasound 2250
            by Haaheim
            Hi guys!

I am currently working on a Parasound 2250 (class AB), which had one defective channel. Components in the signal paths have been replaced, including an output transistor (2SC3519).

According to the manufacturer, bias is adjusted by measuring 1-3mV across the output resistors. The original ones are completely fine around 1.5mV, but the replacement is not. Initially, I got a couple from eBay, assumed they were fake (they were) and was able to source a replacement locally. This exhibits similar behaviour, being around 0.6-0.8mV on its emitter resistor....

Failed UCC and Rubycon replacement on a Dell XPS410, equivalent?
            by DXseekerMO
Hello, I'm working on an old Dell XPS410 with burst capacitors. I'm trying to source either an equivalent replacement, or a replacement that will work. It's been suggested to me to use Poly caps as a replacement, but I have no idea what to order or what will work.

If anyone has a link to where I can buy what I need that would be even better.

These are the caps that have burst:

            Board location: C8BV, C26BV, C43BV
            Brand: United Chemi Con
            Series: KZG
            Size: 10mm dia X 25mm height
            Impedance: (ohms max/20c, 100kHz) .012
            Ripple: 2800...

            "Challenge" Electric Stapler
            by waveydavey
            Hello,

I have an electric stapler that has stopped working. It's a Challenge Xtreme brand (UK cheapie)

When I pull the trigger it is completely dead. I've traced the 230V which is present on the board so it is not a fuse/wiring issue.

I know these are often simple devices (basically a solenoid), but this one has some sort of anti-latching circuit, and I'd like to keep it standard instead of modifying/bypassing it completely.

I think there is a component that switches the solenoid on/off as part of the anti-latching circuit, and may have failed....

Unknown transformer : how to find a good replacement part ?
            by the_rem
            Hello guys,

I would like a quite old but still good 800 W ATX PSU to be repaired. The problem was an extremely heavy coil whine coming from the small secondary transfomer on the PCB.

I desoldered it hoping the references on the upper side would allow me to find a adequate replacement part. Sadly the written references drove me nowhere but to the manufacturer (I-MAG). I sent them a message like a bottle in the see asking them to send me a datasheet of the transformer. And... They responded ! I received a kind of datasheet (see attachment) but my competencies do not allow...
