ViewSonic Sued Over Allegedly Defective LCD Monitors
By Phil Milford - Nov 27, 2012 4:12 PM ET

ViewSonic Corp., a maker of visual- display products, was sued by a consumer who contends the company wrongly sold computer monitors while knowing they contained defective parts and would fail prematurely.

Robert Theis of San Francisco, who said he bought a liquid- crystal display monitor that failed, alleges that ViewSonic was aware of defective capacitors that sometimes overheat and cause the units to break down before they should. The company should reimburse purchasers and pay punitive damages, according to a complaint he filed yesterday in federal court in Delaware.

ViewSonic β€œhas failed to recall the defective monitors publicly in order to cure the design defect,” Theis said in his complaint. He accused the company of breach of warranty, deceptive trade practices, consumer fraud and unjust enrichment.

The company, which provides displays for computers, tablets, signs and smartphones, sold the defective monitors for $150 to more than $1,200, according to Theis's filing.

Jeff Volpe, president of Walnut, California-based ViewSonic didn't immediately return a phone message seeking comment on the lawsuit's allegations.

The case is Theis v. ViewSonic, 12-cv-1569, U.S. District Court, District of Delaware (Wilmington).

In his lawsuit, he should reference this forum! . If this guy wins his suit, then we'll start seeing suits against HP, Dell, Gateway, Acer, Samsung, LG and everyone else in between for exactly the same reasons.... bad caps!

Just archiving everything related to bumpgate since most stuff has disappeared from Google. Maybe people will finally take the time to read some of it and stop shouting "reflow gpu" at every occasion but rather try to understand what the real issue is…
Interesting parts about the failure analysis are "Why Nvidia's chips are defective" and "Why Nvidia's duff chips are due to shoddy engineering"

May complete this post at a later date with more details.
Basically issue is a combination of thermal dissipation of the chip with hotspot,...

Looking for help with a Viewsonic VP230mb where the backlight comes on only momentarily
        by lostone
Hello, I came here after finding some similar questions asked on other monitors and hope someone here can help me get an ancient Viewsonic VP230mp (23" 4:3 LCD) back to working condition.

First a little background, I have a background in computer and electrical engineering, and I'm smart enough to know I know nothing about LCD displays and how they work. For this topic I'm as green as they come.
When the display is turned on the viewsonic logo displays in the uppper left for 2 seconds then the screen goes black, the power LED is green (on) and when a computer is connected...

Pioneer RM-07 Active monitors cutting out from time to time
        by BigOof
I have a pair of Pioneer RM-07 monitors that I bought a while ago. When I was testing them I noticed that one speaker would cut out and I thought it was just a bad cable connection. At the price they were being sold for I was willing to take a risk on them. However, 6 months later and the one monitor still has the same issue. Most of the time it works, but there are times that the power LED is on but I get absolutely no sound. I can hear the relay clicking on/off sometimes and then it will/won't work depending on what it feels like. I've tried XLR and RCA inputs with the same issue. There's no...
