CRT gives a 'film projector sound', does not stay power-on.

    Hello all,

I have a Samsung Samtron 55v 15" CRT colour monitor in use with computers since 2001 till a month ago, which gives a regular sound as if some scrip of paper is flapping against spokes of a wheel, or like in the title, a 'film projector sound' is an approximation. Think of the sound as at 3/10 volume.

At first when the monitor showed problem, display/tube would 'extinguish' as soon as it was switched on, like it would when switching off a CRT Television, but kind of 'implode'.

As I began to attempt to find the cause of the problem, the above mentioned noise began to be noticeable, and when I opened it up and saw, the sound was perceivable. It seemed to be from near the other 'enclosure with a transformer' on the other side to where the big black one is(the big black one I guess is called flyback?). No sparks etc. No burnt parts. No visible issues with capacitors like bulging etc. The on-off switch is also fine mechanically.

In as much as I could aim at a deduction, I believe it is either a capacitor that's not doing well, or it is the tube itself which is gone. I wonder if it could
be the tube itself, since it was all well till the motherboard on which it was connected had to be replaced. I can convincingly locate the issue as only of the monitor, in as far as it concerns the issue of the monitor.

I would like to know what you think has happened.

Update: Now, even the Power LED doesn't light up, and also gone is the mentioned sound.

The noise was likely the flyback arcing internally. The monitor is dead and not worth fixing especially considering it's small.

      A working TV? How boring!

        by Christos Tsiligiannis
        Hello to the forum.

My name is Christos, I am new to the forum here and i am posting from Greece.

So i have this old German sound card from Marian, called Trace Alpha. To be exact i have 2 of them and i use them professionally for my small FM radio station here. The first one works like a charm, but the second one does not work at all.

To be more specific in the same exact pc with windows 7 (i even tried 32bit) the one works while the other doesn't.

So i tried asking for a schematic from the company and they would not give me one. Instead they...
