so i have read through this post:
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...230#post144230

and hope that my problem is a bit different since i have already replaced the big three caps

the Monitor will turn on but will turn off within 5 mins.

if you can help me with part numbers for the rest of the caps or any other suggestions, it would be much appreciated

    thanks so much in advance

    1) We always ask people to post pictures of their own monitors because it is not uncommon for manufacturers to make revisions or even complete board changes and use the same model number. Even the smallest revision makes a huge difference.

    2) Post pictures using the manage attachments feature and please do not post pictures inline as they slow down the loading of pages.

    3) For best picture quality and clarity take your boards to a window on a sunny day, turn flash off, and use macro mode. Take a top down view of all your boards (front and back). Make sure the photo is legible so that we can read the PCB printing clearly. A shutter speed of 1/125 or faster will produce nice clear focused pictures. Try to get a photo that is 2000x2000 resolution or as close as possible.

    4) Here is an example of the pictures we want.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

We will need a picture of the logic board as well.

Does the lcd stay on loger than 5 min if the back cover is off?

        Do you have a multimeter?

I don't want to sound this like I am beating this to death, but double check the soldering on the capacitors you have installed. Gently wiggle or rock the capacitors back and forth watch for any movement on their solder pads.
If you can try to take your pictures without a flash,It causes to much glare. The shape of the capacitors is interesting!
I guess it's your photo editor causing it?
          Al.
Whatever I do, I consider it a success, if in the end I am breathing, seeing, feeling and hearing!

I noticed you replaced them with UCC "SXC", "LXY" and a Panasonic. Did you keep the old capacitors? We need to see if you used the proper replacements. I can tell you right away that "SXC" is probably some old general purpose capacitor and is inadequate for this application.

Also, snap a picture of the logic board.

I repaired an LG Flatron L1710S and it would not work for very long, until yesterday, when I replaced every single last cap, also the primary, and those on the logic board, and now I have been using the monitor for 24 hours without issue (And it has much better color accuracy than that Chi Mei Viewsonic).

oddly enough, when i laid it down on a flat surface, it would stay on a bit longer but would eventually turn off

yes, sorry if the pics look odd but i'm resizing them in MS Paint to fit attachment reqs.

                  Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW

I have found that the 2 second to black can be shorter and a lot longer than 2 seconds.
The fact that with the panel laying flat it will stay on longer may be a clue. If you have any spare ccfls it would be worth a try to see if substitution of known good ones cures the problem. Measuring the inverter transformers is also important, the problem I have is I am not good enough to look at a picture and tell you what pins to measure.
I also cannot tell you the quality of the caps you used.

With power off and lcd unplugged, measure the resistance (ohms) between the 2 yellow dots. Do the same for red yellow dots. Report both.

Greyheart, your logic board looks fine. No need to change the capacitors on it, they're all polymer.

But your power board, when I said "SXC" look at the big red cap, it says "SXC" on it. Now look at the capacitors you replaced, we need the name and series of those capacitors to see if you got the right type.

Post the uF and voltage of the cap. Also, list the diameter and height of the cap in millimeters.

How can we tell you the right one if we don't know what was there before? You need to ask someone who has this board to tell you what comes there from the factory.

got the parts numbers from the original thread about 225BW

checked with Multi-Meter and my Dad said voltage is fine

hopefully the caps will fix the prob *crosses fingers*

                                      hey guys,

so Monitor is on but flickers

i been reading that shining a bright flashlight will show if its still on

i did it and i can slightly see the display...it does stay on but i'm thinking its a backlight issue?

also, if i turn brightness all the way to 100 it stays on but flickers at 66?...i thought keeping it lower would be safer?

thanks again for all your help

                                        Hi folks,

I'm new here and was wondering whether you might be kind enough to give me some advice on troubleshooting the following problem:

Quite a few years ago now, a couple of years from new, my Samsung Syncmaster 740BF LCD monitor starting playing up by making a buzzing noise and then the display would go blank. I seem to remember the blue power led would also go off when this happened but that I'm not 100% sure of. By pressing the power button I do remember I could at first get it working again but eventually the problem would come back. At the time I had read about...
