I'll try to make one, I'll look for a picture of one, I pushed aside the caps, flood light and magnifying glass, I think it says TA8248K.

    My ACS41 TA8229K.
Do you have audio probe for tracing the audio? You can easily make one, see post #18: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...ht=audio+probe

Thanks, there's a green cap blocking the view of most of the black chip, guess I could take it out, the damn pads keep wanting to lift on me, hard for me to deal with these little boards, I'll never complain about a big tv powerboard after dealing with these, lol, I know they're not tiny but my 20/20 vision is long gone.

No way you can see the prints of the IC on the heatsink? I expect it to be something like TA8229. if we can get the IC spec sheet then we can trace the input and output pins from there.
I found my ACS41 and taking some pictures right now.

Changed out the smaller cap, I was wondering about, no change, wondering why there's only sound from one speaker at a time??

Any way to test this IC?

Can't see a thing on the one mounted on heatsink, the other two are KIA324P 7C, the little one on the headphone board is 45600 JRC 6045G. I measured the voltages on the KIA's most of them read about 6 volts one pin was about 12 and one had 0 was ground I think.

What is the P/N of the stereo power amplifiers IC mounted on the heatsink and the other two IC's as well?
Can I get straight shots of the whole bottom side of the board? your picture on post #1 is cut off.

Is this Altec Lancing version? What is the model as shown on the back of the speaker, ASCxxx?

LOL, Oh shit my bad, I knew I shouldn't have ate that last brownie, I'll have to get one from china, was going to get one 6 months ago, looks like they doubled in price, crap, unless I pay twice as much from local.

1134 uf is the capacitance, as you know you need an ESR meter to measure ESR.

The cap is charging properly according to ohm test, I probably would have changed this cap out just to be sure but someone glued it down like it was an escape threat or or sum such, lol, looks like it will be a bear to get out.

ESR 1134 uf, is 1000 uf cap, ac adapter putting out steady 16.66 volts, tried 3 different ac adapters, same result, no bench power supply at the moment.

Have you tested the ESR of the cap ? It could also be the power supply is failing under load, do you get the same.71v powered from a bench power supply ?

started a topic Old Gateway 2000 speakers out of sorts.

Old Gateway 2000 speakers out of sorts.

I'll try to get this in without writing a book:
Will call speaker with controls speaker 1, speaker 1 works when plugged in but it's low volume and turning volume nob has no effect up or down but speaker 2 does not work in this setup. Speaker 1 will give out the same low sound even if the power nob is turned off so off or on the same low volume. Speaker 2 only works when plugged in the headphone jack on the side of speaker 1 but in this setup no sound from speaker 1 and in this setup you only hear sound from speaker 2 when power nob is turned on and it's a little louder but still don't go very high, the sound is heard thru the speaker, didn't try a headphone on it. So at no time do both speaker work at the same time, I couldn't find much info about this odd situation, I think the caps are original so they are OLD, in the first picture the smaller cap of the two on the right only has .71 volts when board is powered on, do you think this is could be the culprit?
