    CDM4/19 on Technics cd dead?

I received a technics SL-PJ28A cd-player, it was sold as working, but it's not. Luckily I got a full refund. The cd would not spin at all, some kind of click is all it does. The laser/head doesn't move or even glow red.
It has Philips CDM4/19 mechanism. Is it repairable?

Was the transit clip fitted when transported? it may still be on.

I have also seen the ribbon cable from the laser split, I'd doubt if laser assembly is still available

Where's the transit clip? The player has not been opened since it left the factory 25 years ago. The laser warning sticker was loose inside.

The logic board is faulty. The laser mechanism itself works fine with a logic board from another player and with it the player works.
        Do these have common faults?

Capacitor C2521 47uF/25V it is a blue Philips capacitor that can get a high ESR.

Replace it with a new. The first that will happen when the cd is loaded is that the laser try to focus. If it fails to focus it will not spin up the cd. If it fails you will only hear a ticking sound.

When I replaced the capacitor in my technics SL-PG440A I first thought I failed with the replacement as it still did not spin up the cd. It turned out that the laser lens was stuck in top position after I had the CDM4 up side down. It was just a matter of gently put a little pressure on the lens and it sunk down to its resting position.

I know this is an old post but this is a very common fault that is very easy to fix so it demands a proper answer

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
            by double_DD
            Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

Technics SA-EX310 dead...no sound, no display

            Hi:

I am trying to bring back to live this amplifier. So far I see that main transformer doesn't receive 220V. It doesn't receive voltage because relé is not activated and doesn't close the main AC circuit to the transformer. (It's not activated because Base of transistor is not excited.......base is connected to pin2 that comes from the main PCB)

Between pin 1&3 I am getting 6.3V, which seem correct......is this the "standby" for the PCB?

Pin 2.....the one connected to base is tagged as "relay". So as soon as it gets the right...

Hilti PD30 Laser Range meter Error 276
            by Dannyx
Good day folks.....wow, seems like forever since I posted anything here Still alive and well, thank you I guess you could say I've become more independent and able to work stuff out on my own. This one though goes way over my head and I doubt is fixable, but maybe some bright spark out there has an equally bright idea.

So: my Hilti PD30 laser meter quit on me just the other day. It was working fine, I set it down for a while and when I tried using it again it gave me an E276 and wouldn't do anything else. I tried taking out the batteries, all that standard stuff but nothing...

            ps5 edm-033 dead after hdmi/usb ports destroyed
            by disorder
            hello guys,

            i need help to repair a edm-033 ps2
history : as always hdmi port and usb ports destroyed after unplugged
after change them, ps5 dead too : 1 beep, no blue light. after inspection 1.8v power was shorted, and because of dead panasonic chip. after remove it : no short anymore
            so i changed it
now i have got 5v stby,, 3.3v stby, 3.3v power, 1.8v power and no short on them
but the ps5 is dead again : 1 beep, near 10 seconds with power lines and then off, no blue light ...

i don't see any projection of liquid metal on pcb.

            Finding a dead short component
            by Beton
            Hi guys!
I searched for the term "dead short" in the forum but no specific thread came up however if I'm just blind and couldn't see the thread talking about this please forward me to that direction.
So my problem is I don't know how to find the source of a dead shorted voltage rail. Dead short = ~0 ohm resistance.
I have two VGAs (HD 4850 and HD 4870), both dead shorted to ground on the memory rail. I have the boardview file for the 4870 and the memory rail consists around ~7892346 capacitors...
I have a bench PSU and if I try to inject voltage the voltage...
