Fisher RS-1056: Dirty volume control, switches, and damaged meter

Hi all. I have a Fisher RS-1056 stereo receiver with some problems. I'll jump right in.

First of all, the volume control is massively dirty. Merely TOUCHING it can stop output to the left channel.

Next, a good majority of the front switches are dirty, with the worst one being the 'High Freq. Filter' one.

The tuner also needs a minor front-end alignment.

Finally, the 'Signal Strength' meter is damaged.

    So:
How do I clean the switches? Mainly the volume control one.(FOUR pots make up the volume control.)

    AND

How do I fix the 'Signal Strength' meter if I can do so?
It's jammed around the 60% to 65% mark.

    Thanks.
Don't buy those $10 PSU "specials". They fail, and they have taken whole computers with them.

Re: Fisher RS-1056: Dirty volume control, switches, and damaged meter

I usually shoot switches with Caig Deoxit D5 in the aerosol can about three times. Waiting 24 hours between cleanings. It's a mild acid that attacks corrosion. It also flushes the lubricant out the factory put in so I shoot some Caig Shield or Faderlube in it as a last step. Don't use D5 on power switches or sliders. It'll cause power switches to weld and it'll eat some cheaper sliders.

Are any of the switches besides the mains switch on my stereo power switches?

Vizio D65x-G4 Volume changes on its own
          by karthur
On this Vizio D65x, the volume will change on its own. I don't mean like during commercials where the volume will increase. I mean its like the (+) volume button on the remote is pressed and the actual volume dialog is displayed on the screen going up. It will do this, then the volume may start going down. It might go all the way to "0"or it might stop at a different number, then start going back up. The whole time its doing this, the volume dialog is shown on the screen.

It wont do it until it has been "ON" for 20 or 30 minutes, so it does seem to be heat related....

Sony HCD-HX80R Amplifier Volume Control Problem
          by crackedprint
I have a strange fault on a Sony amplifier. The volume control varies the display from MIN, then 1 up to 30 and then MAX as expected. At MIN there is no sound. However, at 1 it is quite loud and increasing above 1 does not change the sound level.

I have tried a Cold Reset as per the service manual.

I have looked at the I2C clock and data to volume control chip IC501 (BD3499FV). Data is only sent to IC501 when the volume is set to MIN or 1. At any other setting no data is sent to IC501.

I have looked all the way through the service manual and tried many online...

Marantz SR5007 popping on volume change and mute in Direct Mode
          by BigOof
          Hi,

I bought a used Marantz SR5007 and it's giving me some issues that I can't seem to really place. It functions well in most settings, ARC mostly works, it has no issues driving my speakers in any of the digital input modes, but I'm having issues running analog inputs in direct or pure direct mode. For some reason in this mode there's distortion for every volume increment I give it, but once the volume is stable it has no issues. Muting creates a loud pop, switching to another source also causes a pop and so does turning off the amp in that mode. Again, no issue in the digital modes....

Samsung Soundbar Q900T Cuts Off if Volume above 30
          by Storyteller12
I have this soundbar and when I turn it on it works until I turn the volume above 30.
Then the display show “PROT” protection and shuts off.

I can turn it right back on and it works until volume hits 30 again.

There is a little static on the surround speakers so I unplugged them but still have same problem. I tried unplugging all speakers also and when volume goes above 30 it shuts off.

I can turn the volume above 30 if nothing is playing but as soon as I play something it shuts off.

It will play fine for hours with volume...

Onkyo TX-SR607 replacement volume control encoder
          by redwire
I had an Onkyo SR607 with a volume control encoder not working, turning the knob up the volume number would move around crazy and not work reliably.
Took it out and apart and no, it's not oxide or cleaning, lube required etc.- the metal is simply worn out. It's a 30mm part with metal bushing.

Volume control encoder Onkyo P/N 25065655W, Alps EC12E2425 is some oddball variant I could not find. I did the dig and tried replacement part Alps EC12E2420803 and it works/fits just like the original. Mouser 688-EC12E2420803 for $3.00
