Hi all,
I recently acquired an old Grundig TV from 1982. Series 815 CUC 95. Somebody I work with was just going to throw it away! I'm a retro gamer so I know these old CRTs give the best picture with old school gaming consoles. And I was right, playing Super Mario bros 3 on an NES on this TV compared to a modern day LCD is like night and day!
So anyway, I was playing smb3, got to world 7 and decided I would take a break. I left the TV on and came back an hour later to a room full of smoke! The TV was still running fine and after the initial shock of the thought that my house was burning down, I opened the back case of the TV to find a metal film cap had exploded! I slid the board out of the chassis.

Now, it is my understanding that this TV was not in use for some years, and after some heavy use from me over a period of a few days, the cap decided to give up. Assuming they've never been replaced, these caps are nearly 35 years old.
I'm wondering whether the cap blew from age, or something else caused it to blow? I cannot find a (free) copy of the service manual. Having said that everything else looks ok.
I'm just going to replace it. The cap says 0.15 250v~ wima mp3. The markings on the back say N3 560-7 X. However I cannot find a suitable replacement locally. This is the only one I can go around the corner and grab but its voltage is rated much higher. I know you should never decrease the Voltage rating, however I am unsure whether this is a suitable replacement. I was also wondering whether the type of film capacitor is important.
There is another cap on the same board which is identical and im thinking of replacing that one as well.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
