No display with new video card!

I bought a Sapphire HD 7770 GHZ edition and i get no picture on the monitor. All it says is that there is no signal and that is all. My system still works with my old HD 5450. My monitor is a Samsung syncmaster SA10. I also tried it with another monitor and nothing. I think that it is because i both of the monitors are VGA? The card has a displayport, HDMI and DVI. I use a VGA-DVI that was in the box. I think the system is starting up, because all the fans quiet down, but still no display. My PSU is a Delta 460w (i also posted it in the build quality pictorial) and i do have a PCI-E and the required power is 450w. I also tried it with the molex-pci-e but nothing. The guys on another forum sugested, that it might be a PSU issue, or just my monitor. I can still RMA it, but i'd rather just try and get it to work, if i can't get it to work, then fucki it, i'll just return the thing. I was thinking, that maybe when it is trying to show a resolution that my monitor can't handle when it starts up. Maybe install the latest drivers and try again?

The card might not support analog DVI (yes, that exists, it's what the cheap adapters use). I don't know why they would put an unsupported adapter in the box, though. Do you have an HDMI TV that you could try?

Well, i have two adapters, and both seem to be digital. Here is how the connector looks like: http://img.tomshardware.com/us/2005/.../dvi_types.png
Second one from the to, the dual link one. Im actually starting to suspect my PSU. Maybe it's not supplying enough amps? There is 12v on the pci-e connector, yes, i mesaured it, but the card does not seem to be "powered". I am currently using the integrated gpu, since im too lazy to put the 5450 back, and it works. I also have the 7770 in my system. The fan is spinning and that is it. And, it looks like it is not detecting at all. Whatever i choose the video adapter as from the BIOS, integrated, PCI, or PCIE, i always only get video on the integrated, but not on the 7770. So, should I try a more powerful PSU? It has 3 12v rails, 8A, 15A and 16A. Also, it is 460w. What should i do? Return it? I do have a HDTV, but bo HDMI cables Ill see if i can get my hands on one.

Re: No display with new video card!

The four pins and the -- line on the DVI jack transmit the VGA signal. The card has them on the connector, so the DVI to VGA adapter the card comes with should work.

I bought Sapphire 7770 Ghz edition a few days ago, probably the same model as it has same connectors.

It will work just fine with your power supply, but it needs to have that 6 pin connector plugged in even though it only uses about 10 watts in windows and about 80-90w in games. Use a molex to pci express adapter if you have to, the card comes with one in the box.

Really, it can work even with a 300w power supply, provided this 300w power supply gives enough amps on 12v to power the video card and the more modern cpus and hard drives - they say 450w just because most 450w power supplies have enough amps.

I'm using two monitors on it, one on DVI (digital) and one on HDMI (digital).

HDMI is the primary monitor, DVI is the second (but the Windows driver allows you to arrange the monitors whichever way you want), displayport is the third.

But HDMI being the first, it's possible the DVI port (hence the vga) won't be initialized at least until Windows starts loading, so you won't see anything on the screen.

Really, you shouldn't use VGA anymore these days, it's a lousy transfer method, susceptible to quality loss. HDMI and DVI and Displayport are much better.

The problem is that i am poor and i can not afford a good monitor I have the pci-e plugged in, and it does not work. I also tried the molex to pci-e that came with it, but that did not work either. I also have the latest drivers. And the problem is that i don't think that it even detects the card, since the only output that is doing anything is the integrated, no matter what display adepter type i choose from the BIOS. And once it boots into Windows there is still nothing from the new card. I am getting pretty fucking frustrated at this point.

            What motherboard?

See if there's some bios updates for the motherboard you have.

Thanks again mariushm, whenever i have a question, then you have always tried to help It turns out that the card is fine, but my pc is being a bitch. I put the card in my old athlon s939 system, and it posted right away! That does my OCD good the board in my main system is an Asus A8M2N-LA. I have absolutely no idea why the mobo and the card do not want to negotiate.

Any ideas why the board doesn't want to work with it? The 7770 works in another system, and my board works with other cards.

Re: No display with new video card!

I am now more than sure that my board is a piece of shit. I tried the card in my friends AMD A10 system, and again, works perfectly. Im going to buy this motherboard: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=2599#ov used for 25 euro, and use a E6320 that i have. Since this baord can overclock and so can the cpu, im going to push it to 2.6 instead of theoriginal 1.86. Should be faster than the x2 5k+. Also I'm going to try a BIOS update for the A8M2N-LA, but i need to download and install Vista first because the installer is not compatible with Windows 7.

Alright. Got the new board in yesterday, put the machine together and install the new card, and the thing is up and running once again!

Cool. Your original board (The A8M2N-LA) has a manufacturing defect with the chipset, so maybe that had something to do with it.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Might be, the 6150le chip is a hunk of shit It is still working fine, just not used anymore. I don't think that the chip was going to fail. It did get hot, but after i cleaned the chip and the heatsink and put Nexus silver thermal compound on there, it was reporting lower temperatures. The e6320 is much faster than the x2 5k+, the 5k did 512k PI in 17s with 2.6 clock, and 14s with 3.0 clock, but the e6320 does 12s with only 2.1ghz. probably because of 4m cache or something. I'm going to push it even higher.
