Heres something cool. I check the local business dumpsters from time to time and i come across this gem. Customer returned, still in the box.
Its a sharper image ceramic tower fan/heater.
I take her home, and it works but after about a minuite it shuts down. It has two 12vdc fans inside and only one works. I assume its overheating due to one fan not working and protecting itself.
Without power the dead fan spins fine but with power applied it almost locks up. Then i noticed it.... the blade is up too high. These fan motors are brushless, theres a round permanent magnet attached to a cup on the fan blade. For whatever reason this one came from the factory not pressed in all the way. I simply removed the fan and cup assy, looked it over, then pressed it together until it clicked firmly together. Reinstalled it, i now have a $80 heater for free!
