    £50 is good enough for a decent-quality 936-style iron these days. Those are robust and easily repairable as there are plenty of spare parts available for them.

      Apparently I'm the only one who realises (apart from the OP) that this is an iron you use on clothes

      OP, I too have one of these Morphy Richards irons. Very nice to use, bought it off a friend for £5 when I moved into my own place.

          D'oh!

          Almost always when someone says "iron" on an electronics forum I'm going to think "soldering iron". At first I was wondering what kind of soldering iron would have a relay and electronics like that...
