Broken power input on portable dvd player

    Hello,

I have this portable dvd player that I've had but didn't use for a long time. The problem is I went to plug in the charger, and noticed that there was a pin loose in the power input. It seemed to get broken somehow, it just fell out.

I tried to plug in the adapter anyway but it didn't do anything. The power connection says "DC in 9v", it's pretty small. I tried to disassemble the dvd player and see if I could try and stick the pin back in, but I couldn't get it apart. I took all the screws out but it still wouldn't come apart, and I didn't want to force it.

The question I have is if I was to get it apart somehow, would it be possible to just solder the pin back in? My soldering iron is kinda big also. I thought maybe I could just drop a bit of solder into the hole and quickly stick the pin back in, but that seemed like a bad idea.

Maybe I can get a replace input? What should I do?

It is a CyberHome Portable DVD Player CH-LDV 700B

    Thanks

DC jack replacement is a common thing for laptops. If you take apart your player you may be able to find an OEM DC jack replacement. If not, you may be able to find a laptop DC jack that may be a suitable replacement?

DC jacks for laptops can be as low as $1.50 USD on ebay.

Not a chance in hell. You can never fix plastic components reliably just replace them. You need to replace the barrel connector by desoldering it and installing a new one.

Search at Digikey for barrel connector you'll need to know the connectors inner diameter before ordering for example 2.1mm is a popular one.

The case is probably held together by a combination of screws and clips it may require some pulling to dislodge them.

        Thanks for the replies,

I'm a bit confused at the diameter thing, I took a ruler to it and it turned out to be about 4 mm. Now I did a search on digikey.com (I just did a general search because 4mm was not an option), and they all seem to be 2.1mmID-5.5mmOD...whatever that means. They aren't listing what voltage they are or anything like that so I'm just assuming it's like a universal thing?

The good thing is they are only like $0.70

          ID -inside diameter
          OD -outside diameter

Measure the pin that fell out for the ID figure. Measure the plug from the charger for the OD.
