    Isolation Transformer Questions

Well I just got my 450VA Tenma isolation transformer today my matching 450VA variac is coming tomorrow. No more hot chassis shocks for me .

I chose this one because I like the neat and tidy case so I don't have to look at a hunk of iron on my workbench all the time .

I decided to crack it open and take a look since the casing cover came with a nice ding in it and I had to bend it back and repaint it . Nothing damaging just asthetic and enough to annoy me. Oh well send a heavy 17 pound transformer across the country and what do you expect?

Anyways when I opened it I noticed two sheets of paper coated with a clear substance. Laquer or acetate or something which was draped over the left hand side of the transformer.

What are these for to prevent the wires from getting pinched when the casing was installed?

There were two sheets together on the left side I think that they should be on either side like in the pic. Can't trust the cheap Chinese labor.

Or should I just chuck them?

I am still waiting for the fresh coat of paint to dry for the cover so it will be open for awhile.

On a related note when I tested the isolated output it was actually higher then the line voltage. Line voltage (at the primary was) 122 VAC and on the isolated secondary it was 130VAC.

Doesn't this mean that this isn't a true 1:1 transformer and it's actually boosting a bit?

    Thanks

    Re: Isolation Transformer Questions

Or is the higher voltage the result of me measuring without a load?

So if it was loaded down the output voltage would drop?

Whoops I didn't put this in the test equipment section.

Sorry about that hopefully a mod will put it in it's proper place.

Isolation Transformer Build - Technical Questions
        by clearchris
After seeing so many recommendations on here, I'm going to build an isolation transformer. My original plans were to get two identical transformers out of microwaves, split them and use both the primary coils, but I have been foiled by transformers with identical part numbers having slightly different dimensions. So I'm planning on just wrapping the second coil myself. (Maybe I make two!)

I looked up the model number on the transformer, it's a ebj60664602 and is rated for 13A on the primary coil. No mention of a duty cycle though. Considering it's coming out of a homeowner microwave,...

isolation transformer from two 240/12, wiring?
        by harp
When is talk about making isolation transformer on poor-man way, always I see schematic 240/12-12/240.
So, I wonder, is this wiring from my attachment it work, bringing some good feature or it is bad idea and why?...

        Original Xbox 1.0 PSU: Foxlink FTPS-0002 Rev. B. — 12 V low, 5 V high — transformer?
        by ohren
        Hello!

I'm looking at an original Xbox PSU: Foxlink ftps-0002 rev. B. The 12 V output is too low, and the 5 V output is too (?) high. Unfortunately I don't have an oscilloscope but only a DMM for diagnosis.

        Measured voltages with no load:

        After rectifier diodes
        12V: 6.17 V
        5V: 5.67 V

Secondary transformer pins AC measurement (really don't know if this says anything)
        12V: 2-2.5 V
        5V: 1.04 V

I also have another (working) Xbox psu from Delta. The same measures there, in order, being: 10.79,...
