    VP6 not powering up

    Hi,

I have the following problem with my VP6 board: it does not power up at all when I press the power button (I was able to power it on after many many tries before, but it's becoming more and more difficult to turn it on). I also have BSOD from time to time (not too often). It also freezes from time to time (not often, but it happens).

Do you think this can be caused by bad caps?
I had a look at the board but I can't see any bad caps (no bulging or disfigurement, etc.).

    Thanks.

    Re: VP6 not powering up

The other possibility is the PSU Caps

what brand is it? how long has it been running

The symptoms are those that would happen with badcaps....that does not mean they the only cause.
Just a likely cause depending on brand and when the MB was made.

you say its been progressively getting worse which does again support badcaps as being the culprit.

Badcaps can if left to long cause other damage

there are a few who are familiar with this MB so they will probably post on it

one post I found mention Teapo's know bad caps bit strange thought if this is a dual cpu job?
Its a well regarded board on this forum by the quick search I did

    HTH cheers and Welcome

if it has teapo or jackcon caps on it, dont even bother looking at them, just recap it. teapos are notorious for failing without showing a single physical sign of failure.

when the mobo does not power up do you get a fan twitch?
a sick psu can cause this.
