    Ecs P45sa

Hi, I own a ECS P45SA which died and also killed my cpu.

I recapped it with the caps I bought from this site. The only difference between the old caps and the new caps is the brand (old OST - new Rubycon) and some name on the caps (old RLX - new MBZ).

The cpu fan spins and stops and that is all that happens, same as before I had replaced the caps and the cpu.

I am wondering if MBZ may be the reason why? I don't know anything about these names, but would this be why it still won't power up? Should I have gotton caps with RLX?

or would it be the VRMs?

    Thanks,

    John

    Probably the VRM's are shot

thanks, do you know how I might go about replacing them?

        Re: Ecs P45sa

RLX are OST crap. they are guaranteed to fail. MBZ are one of the best rubycon caps and there is no issue with replacing RLX with another brand of caps.

you have other probs, yeah it might be VRMs. your board needs more work than just replacing caps.

i PM Topcat who supplied you the caps to assist further.

Agreed. Check the VRM FET's for shorts, thats the starting place. If the FET's read OK with a tester, then likely the regulator itself is cooked. If the FET's are shorted, they arent that difficult to replace, but pray that nothing else further up the line is cooked too.

Another example of not waiting to recap a board.

which died and also killed my cpu.
check your voltages also before you nuke more components.

Hi, thank you all for your answers.

              I have another question.

When I saudered the new caps on, I only saudered them at the bottom of the board, I did not melt the sauder into the holes where the caps metal legs go. Could you please tell me if this may be why its not working?

                Re: Ecs P45sa

Probably not, unless you damaged the foil in the holes. If you melt the solder so it's contacting the bottom of the board, then the foil in the holes will make an electrical connection through the board. And is this a s423 or s478 or lga775 board?
                The great capacitor showdown!
