DFI AR70 SR - Damn Teapo!

I opened up my daily use Linux box to find this! I bought the board off E-Bay hardly used. It came with all manuals, cables and software just like brand new. I have had it running 24/7 for about 6 months. Glad my psu with Teapos doesn't look like this.

      8 Ruby MBZ 3300uf 6.3v, 4 Nichicon HE 1500uf 16v, and 23 Nichicon HM 1000uf 6.3v (don't worry, they are new!) later, it looks a little better.

btw, its and AD70 SR, not AR70

Nice job, man...That Tbird looks pretty (might be a Duron, too). They're old, but still great CPUs.
You know there's something wrong when you open up a PSU and are glad to find Teapos.

Tbirds rock! I'm using the board right now, and it feels alot better! My "most recent" cpu is a Sempron 2800, and that is only because I bought a Compaq new last years for the family comp. Got it for $295, so I can't complain.

Most of the time, Teapos fail without showing any physical signs - yet on here I see Teapos that have bulged, vented (from the bottom) and even one that looks like the top has collapsed inwards!

The worst cap failures I've seen still have to be Tayeh and GSC though

Were you getting any bad cap symptoms before you opened up the case to see these?

Not many symptoms. The last couple weeks there were a few lock ups though. The failure does look extreme for Teapo. They couldn't have been that way for very long.

I'm afraid I've got the next board with failed Teapos now...It's my neighbor's and it was hooked up to a failing PSU (a couple bulging Fudge-Yous on the output) for a while. It's an Abit VH6T, socket 370. It'll turn on, the fans come on, but no display. It's not the video card, we tried two... The caps on the board are all Teapo except for one Nichicon, which seems to be there just to tease you. They all look fine, but the case has a bit of a smell to it. How would you guys describe the smell of bad caps? I think the board has it but it could have wafted from the PSU...although I doubt it, that doesn't really stink.

I doubt that new caps will fix that.

Meh. I have no idea of the problem, everything looks fine but doesn't work. I'm just going to set him up with a Celeron 2.5 system, once I get the board for it.
