    CPU short? Help...

I have asus g750jw, boardview attached...the simptoms were shorting charger...i take it a part...used multimeter on motherboard and almost every part of the board had short to the ground. Using boardview i tried to isolate the problem and finally i found the capacitor on 19v nets...attached capacitor and location..it has short to the ground. Removed it.
After i removed it i found that some parts/nets of the board have short to the ground and some dont...so, there is a short somewhere else... I removed almost all the joints, couple of resistors...and finally i got short only on +vcore. Not good, i know... Then i removed every last fuc*ing capacitor on vcore but still short...so probobly short on vcore solder joints?
Can i now safely assume that the cpu is dead? either dead completely or shorted through some bed solder point to the motherboard?
I am new at this so please any help appreciated...

    Re: CPU short? Help...

Is the short on the upper side MOSFET or on the lower side MOSFET? (ie. between B+ and VCore or between VCore and ground)
If it's the lower side MOSFET, it's most likely a MOSFET or a capacitor on the VCore line and the CPU is fine (it could be shorted too but that's rare).
If it's on the upper side MOSFET, one of the MOSFET is shorted and the CPU is probably dead. (the more recent the CPU is, the more sensitive)

Short on lower side MOSFET: resistance between Vcore and ground lower than 1ohm
Short on upper side MOSFET: low resistance between B+ and VCore, and a few ohms of resistance between B+ and ground.
If resistance between B+ and VCore is high and resistance between VCore and ground is of a few ohms, that's a perfeclty normal situation.

      Optiplex 3050 Vcore Mosfet short
      by pavithra_uk
      it is 3+2 vrm
vcore high side mosfet (AON6380) shorted when turned on instatly killed the processor (i5 7400)
gate drive chip (NCP81166) also gone.

any suggestions before replace mosfet and gate drive chip? what if I replace 3 high side mosfets with more current capable mosfets?

      odd question:
what if I put two silicone diodes series in forward way? assume each diode 0.7v drop and total of 1.4V. vcore not exceed this but can protect cpu from direct 12V hit from shorted mosfet ?...

HP Victus 15-fb dag3pamb8d0 Short on VCORE – How to Confirm CPU Fault?
      by adelfr2009
I have a laptop HP Victus 15-fb with motherboard DAG3PRMB8D0, CPU Ryzen 7535HS, and GPU RTX 2050. The laptop has a power issue: it does not turn on at all, and there is no light on the DC jack.
After inspection, I found that an NMOS near the charger input had a short. I replaced it, but the short remained on the 19V line. I checked the charging circuit and it was fine, but the short appears after the current sense resistor near the charger. The charger does not pass current when connected, so I inject 3V–4V after the sense resistor. No component gets hot, except the CPU which becomes...

HP OMEN 15-ce012nh give error code 5long 3 short after CPU LOW SIDE MOSFET BURN
      by questore
      Hello everyone.
Someone brought this poor hp in.

All power rails had normal resistances so i turned it on. Instant power cutoff...
First mosfet was shorted so replaced it...
After that I have tryed to start since no short was on the main power rail. the CPU middle dual mosfet heated up and protection shut down the laptop.
After investigating i have found that when the mosftet turning on then the mostfet got instantly hot (not the CPU)
Removed the faulty mosfet. -> now laptop turns on CPU mildly gets hot but laptop gives the common 5 long 3 short LED...

450watt power supply 5v, 3.3v short to ground wire,in output rail ,connectors
      by playit
hello everyone , working zebronics power suply 450 watts , 5v ,3.3v givin short to ground black wire, also in circuit at output, resistor was charred but shows right values , after removing resistors 39ohms, 51 ohms, there was no short , no continuity beeps with ground , but after replacing new resistors (now i am not switching it on) ,again short still exists . when i put bigger ohm resistor like 100k ohm , no short beeping sound comes , lower ohm resistor gives continuity beeps ,other big ones donest , as its a working psu , i am confused what to remove now or how to go further now .

DELL Nvidia GTX 750Ti Mosfet goes short after a few minutes
      by aaronkatrini
      Hi all,

I have recently picked up this Dell OEM Nvidia GTX 750Ti 2GB Video card. Its an old card I know but still wanted to get it working if possible. The problem is the following:

      - Put the card in my testing motherboard and start running Heaven benchmark
      - Benchmarks seems to run smoothly up until half way then the motherboard completely shuts off immediately
      - Try to start it again and I get a slight move from the PSU fan - a clear short
      - A little troubleshooting later I find one shorted Mosfet - Replace them both - short is gone
      - Put the...
