DDR3/DDR4 laptop SODIMM to desktop DIMM adapters

Anyone have/use these SODIMM to desktop DIMM adapters, well, not to convert signaling types but just change socket types. Are they stable? Do they slow things down and force downclocks?

I have an unused DDR3 4GB SODIMM and have a need for a 4GB DDR3 DIMM. Wondering if I should:
- buy a 4GB DIMM (and selling the 4GB SODIMM seems unlikely)
- get an adapter for the SODIMM?
- Find a cheap 8GB DIMM somewhere and hope it's not a SODIMM...

Though DDR3 is my highest technology module out there I suspect I really should be getting 8GB modules especially for a 2-slot board; but since I already have the 4GB SODIMM module I could use it in the interim and be open for a either 8G SODIMM or desktop DIMM in the future...

Looking through those on ebay, there were some SODIMM to SODIMM adapters; ones that would allow DDR3 to be ran in a DDR2 slot....problem is, they don't look like they'd fit in tight places... The upside if they worked, it'd allow the very cheap 4gb DDR3 SODIMM's to be used in place of the stupid expensive 4gb DDR2 SODIMM's.

depends on the chips, not sure if the signalling would work between different ddr protocols, perhaps chips can switch between the two. However, sodimm and regular desktop sized modules should use the same protocol.

True....I was just looking around.....I didn't know these even existed until yesterday!
