    Re: Replacement schedule server hdds

I typically replace them every 3 years whether they need it or not. Of course a failing one will be replaced upon fault discovery. I usually demote good ones to hotspares or emergency backup drives, selling off the spares that they're replacing. SCSI HDD's cant be compared to SATA/PATA, as they're built better. I've still got some 10k and 15k SCSI's in operation today that are 5+ years old, no bad sectors or issues. I've had way too many SATA/PATA drives in server environments (7200 & 10k rpm) fail within a year... Just goes to show where the quality is. Fujitsu is my SCSI HDD of preference.

I do both power supplies and disks every 3 years. None of my small business clients are on SCSI.

i often grab pulls from upgrades that are several years old and run 24/7/365
very rare to have one fail.have a 15k seagate that is 8 years old and had done 5 years continues before i got it. its the boot drive in one of my work computers.
i image the os once a month and data gets stored on raid 5.
as for power supplies i am picky about what i use and often recap preemptively.
i dont make money fixing my own stuff so i dont fool with crap parts.

Troubleshooting of redundant F750E-S0 Dell PowerEdge Server
              by omega
              Hello all,
as a beginner electronics hobbyist, after a few years I would like to place another post on this Forum section, given that I did not succeed in finding any useful advice among the other posts.

Over the last years, I have been using a PowerEdge Dell Server with two redundant PSUs, namely the 750W F750E-S0 ones (aka 06W2PW). Unfortunately, last summer one of them failed (perhaps owing to an overheating), and the server had for working to take into account the other one only. Of course I opened and tried to troubleshoot the failed PSU, but each cap I tested seemed to...

Unknown transformer : how to find a good replacement part ?
              by the_rem
              Hello guys,

I would like a quite old but still good 800 W ATX PSU to be repaired. The problem was an extremely heavy coil whine coming from the small secondary transfomer on the PCB.

I desoldered it hoping the references on the upper side would allow me to find a adequate replacement part. Sadly the written references drove me nowhere but to the manufacturer (I-MAG). I sent them a message like a bottle in the see asking them to send me a datasheet of the transformer. And... They responded ! I received a kind of datasheet (see attachment) but my competencies do not allow...

PS4 controller left stick potentiometer replacement issue
              by ezenia
              Hello,

Not sure if this is the correct section, but I have a PS4 controller that I am trying to fix. It developed stick drift on the left stick and the usual simpler methods did not fix the problem.

So I went on eBay and ordered some replacement potentiometers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174967976757 is where I got them from.

I took the green potentiometers off the replacement sticks and soldered them onto the PCB. Assembled the controller and ran some tests. The drifting was somewhat fixed (not fully in center, but way better than before). However,...
