I just picked up an E8400 for my microATX fragbox/main desktop, and while it overclocks well, with just a bit more Vcore, i seem to have a temperature irregularity regarding Tjunction.. It seems to be out on the web that this is endemic to the Wolfdale chips, but i just wanted some confirmation.
My G0 E6750 ran Tjunction about 10 or 11 C hotter than Tcase, which is the temp that most motherboard BIOS's use to control the CPU fan speed, not the Tjunction.. The E8400 has about a 24 C delta between Tjunction and Tcase, with the net result that the CPU fan doesn't throttle up as aggressively as it did with the E6750.. I'm running the latest BIOS for my board, which is a Gigabyte G33 based microATX one.. So far i've been happy with 3.6GHz, but i'm sure this chip has more than that, if i could be sure it's really not hitting 70 C Tjunction with a gentle 600MHz o/c and .075 Vcore bump..
