Does anyone else have a wolfdale core chip yet here??

I just picked up an E8400 for my microATX fragbox/main desktop, and while it overclocks well, with just a bit more Vcore, i seem to have a temperature irregularity regarding Tjunction.. It seems to be out on the web that this is endemic to the Wolfdale chips, but i just wanted some confirmation.

My G0 E6750 ran Tjunction about 10 or 11 C hotter than Tcase, which is the temp that most motherboard BIOS's use to control the CPU fan speed, not the Tjunction.. The E8400 has about a 24 C delta between Tjunction and Tcase, with the net result that the CPU fan doesn't throttle up as aggressively as it did with the E6750.. I'm running the latest BIOS for my board, which is a Gigabyte G33 based microATX one.. So far i've been happy with 3.6GHz, but i'm sure this chip has more than that, if i could be sure it's really not hitting 70 C Tjunction with a gentle 600MHz o/c and .075 Vcore bump..

What about using a super cooler, such as the Thermalright Ultra 120-SE? If that bad boy won't cool it, you will have to go to water cooling.

I don't think it's actually running that hot though.. My Tcase temperatures are lower, it's just that the delta between Tcase and Tjunction is about 14 C higher, which makes me think the Wolfie's DTS temp sensor doesn't quite work right, or is being misinterpreted somehow..

It's not a wolfdale, but my yorkfield works great under a vapochill.

As far as air cooling, I have no doubt a Scythe Mine would cool it very well, and be quiet at the same time. I've used those things on many processors, including an Opteron 185 at 3125MHz, and they are very effective. I doubt your 8400, even with the overclocking and overvoltage, would be making as much heat as that Opteron. Nothing wrong with the Thermalright though.

When I get into Windows again, I'll see if there's any difference in the temp readings on my yorkfield. I'm not sure if they're affected by the issue like wolfdales, but what the heck.
A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.
