    Shocking Video With nVidia Engineer

As some of you may or may not have heard, ther's a bit of a scandal with the Geforce 970, where the card really only has 3.5GB RAM, eventhough it's advertised as 4GB.

There's a nasty bug where if something tries to access the last non-existent 512mb, the card slows down to a crawl, or so I've read.

An nVidia engineer talk about this:

No !! That guy is a comedian not an Nvidia engineer and secondly the cards have 4Gb not 3.5Gb.
You are correct that there is an issue when addressing over the 3.5Gb.

Could it be the 32-bit addressing limitation, like on non-64 bit PCs?
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

That's what I'm leaning to, or at least possibly something close to that.
There may actually be 4GB of memory on the board, but either some of it is not accessible, or some of it is set aside for something else.

It's because they are using a slightly gimped gpu. This means they can't optimally control the last 512mb.

A fuller more technical explanation here.

Reminds me of the 32-bit Windows limitation, because commonly, roughly 512 MB is reserved for devices.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 / GTX 960 Schematic & Board View

The GeForce GTX 950 was a mid-range graphics card by NVIDIA, launched on August 20th, 2015. Built on the 28 nm process, and based on the GM206 graphics processor, in its GM206-250-A1 variant, the card supports DirectX 12. This ensures that all modern games will run on GeForce GTX 950. The GM206 graphics processor is an average sized chip with a die area of 228 mm² and 2,940 million transistors. Unlike the fully unlocked GeForce GTX 960, which uses the same GPU but has all 1024 shaders enabled, NVIDIA has disabled some shading...
