Partition backup tool with SATA support?

    Hi all,

recently i want to backup a fresh installed and customized Wxp on a Sony laptop.
Put in my old Acronis 8.xx and it failed to detect the Sata HDD.

It is an Intel 945 chipset, and apparently the old Acronis does not support it.

Does anyone know if the newer versions of Acronis or similar tools does support it?

I just want to make a partition Backup, to avoid the customization hassle if the installations goes fubar.
Personally i prefer to use a non Windows tool, just as the older versions of Acronis and Ghost are.

well I run version 10 and yeah I think it does do SATA but there are issues with 10
Seems its best to use it from the stand alone rescue CD (make a disk) not from within widows.

    Just a side point,
but images made under 8 possibly wont work with 10 if I remember correctly?
(they only make it compatible 1 or 2 versions something like that...stupid I suppose but that the way it is) I dont know for sure thought but its a point to watch out for
(maybe its the way they write the software that causes this ?)

I would also PROVE the backup works.

Davmax has a thread on the issues he was having with it.

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...hlight=acronis

wilder forums here and I would do a search on SATA gonzo cause its possible from the quick one I did there are issues SATA

    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=64

I only use it occasionally so don't have a great deal of experience with it.

I would be wary of it gonzo its good but does have some issues.

For Best protection I would "Clone a HDD "as backup if you got a spare HDD you can use for that purpose.

I haven't used Ghost in along time so no idea were thats at and dont know of what freebie stuff is around with SATA support.

    Hope its of some help

    Cheers

THX for the reply, i will give it a try, but it seems to not support SATA AHCI mode with the bootable disk.

Proving a backup working is standard procedure for any backup work i think.
Even Acronis TI v8 produces some bad images from time to time.
Luckily i never experienced this by my own.

More so with 10 ,but yes you should... I agree test any backup works.

Think Acronis 11 is out now but I haven't looked into it at all.

        cheers
