This desktop was brought in for me to clean up...

    It's an...

    eMachines T3516

Celeron D 352 3.20 Ghz Cedarmill (has 512 KB of L2 like the Northwoods)

    Came with a real paltry 512 MB of DDR 2 PC2 4200 (The real-low-for-DDR 2-frequency is something I expect on a 2004!)
(Not on a 2006, because even 2006 was a late model for 775s)
(Even though it's still configured with a Pentium 4-based architecture chip.)

It now has a 1 GB stick.

It has Radeon Xpress 200 graphics, which is working fine for Racer. (racer.nl)

Fresh installation of XP x32 yesterday...

Flash 12 is working fine on YouTube.

For some reason, the videos on UploadSociety are playing SLOW!

Just some weeks ago, UploadSociety was experimenting and they obviously want folks to be Chrome heads, LOL. It seemed to require Chrome.

Under Firefox, IIRC, I would get the error message "No video with supported format and MIME type found".

Cedar Mill was nice, lower TDP's for Netburst...the last Celeron D was actually released in 2007! (The 365)

Surprised they are even still using that thing! I'm sure the RAM helps, but get a video card in there so the video can get its own bus and RAM, I doubt that Xpress 200 is doing much decoding, and we all know how slow Celerons are with their low cache. Although the 512KB versions are MUCH better than the 256KB ones.

Actually, even when Flash on YouTube wasn't as bad as the UploadSociety performance on the Celeron D 352, the processor usage was still through the roof!

It was time to get VLC and VLC can play 720p videos reasonably. Likely at less than 100 percent, too.

And VLC does 1080p at 100 percent...

The Flash player wouldn't stand a chance at 1080p on the Celeron D 352!

Firefox 24 ESR was configured to have VLC Tube.

Re: This desktop was brought in for me to clean up...

512 KB of L2 was bottom of the barrel in 2006. (It's not 2003 or 2004 anymore!)

Even though I dunno if a bigger L2 cache makes that much of a difference...

L1 cache probably has more noticeable gain than L2. In fact, with L1 disabled, expect it to be slow like Windows 8 on a P4, LOL.

I think the worst performance penalty was because of it being single core as if it were 2004.
