    What the hell did that?

I was doing a routine cleaning of my case when something caught my eye.

I looked on the other side, nope it's not there. then I realized what that depression was (you can barely see it on the top of the case).
The top of the system has gotten so hot it has melted the skin!
I checked for failed fans, nope.
I then checked for a nasty PSU, it's not even touching the top of the case nor is it getting that hot.
I have a zip and a jaz drive sitting ontop but the jaz drive is not even plugged in and the zip drive is not even warm.
Before the drives there was nothing ontop of the cases besides a die-cast model of thunderbird 2 but i heavily doubt that it did anything.

    What could cause this?

Hehe. Ok, I am writing what my husband just said because I know it will make him feel good.

"Over time some thing sitting on plastic (especially when heat is involved) will warp it."

I am not sure how much weight, heat, and period of time it would take to cause that dent. I agree with him, but only to a certain extent. Not sure if this dent goes to that extent.

What's the curve in the panel edge from?

The curve is from the heat.
Ever noticed how when some plastics heat up they shrink?

Thaat top panel is also 1/8" thick! I don't see the warping being natural.

looks like a lamp got too close to the top.
if that heat came from within the pc the internal damage would be real easy to spot.
