    Did that laptop just die?

Okay, so I have a situation on my hands with a laptop that I can't access. Why can't I access it? It's my aunty's one in the USA.
I built it for her in June this year and she picked it up while here in holiday for use in the states.

It's a Fujitsu T5010 with a C2D CPU and P965 chipset with 3GB RAM. Very nice convertible tablet/laptop. When I say "built" above... what I did was purchase a physically good unit with a dead motherboard (water damaged base) and a unit with a good motherboard but a cracked display.

I swapped the motherboard over, cleaned the internals inc. fans, reapplied thermal lube etc. and it was all good. Passed all the burn-in testing I threw at it and I used it for a good 3 weeks or so at university with NO ISSUES at all. Brand new HDD was also installed along with an extra GB of DDR3 RAM (was 2GB before).

Today I get an email of distress and she says it won't turn on anymore... plugged in and a blue light comes on (signifies it gets power/charging) but won't turn on?! She's had it for 3 months.

All I can understand is... plugged in, blue light comes on, display is black... doesn't help me at all!

I'm like 15,000 miles away so I can't diagnose anything but I highly doubt the motherboard is dead because it worked A++ when I rebuilt it!

What could be wrong here? Could a dead RAM be causing it?

Got the news that it turns on now. Aunty didnt remove ram or anything... just turned on when power button was pressed. Have a feeling she didnt plug it in or the like. However ive been told its running slow so maybe a windows reinstall will help? She uses aol browser... not sure if thats a contributor along with no antivirus.

Are you crazy!? IE is bad enough even if you're running AV software!

The AOL software is actually worse than IE.

Because I sent two of these T5010 laptops over in June. One for uncle and one for aunty. Now I am told the other laptop has died and does not switch on. The one that died before and came back life still works but is very slow.

I am expected to fix this problem somehow... 10000 miles away. I swear I will NEVER EVER give laptops to anyone ever again. :O

I think if a laptop doesnt start it´s always a good idea to disconnect power, remove the battery, wait a couple of minutes, insert the battery again, connect power and try to start.

Alienware M17x Laptop motherboard may be dead

We use a laptop to connect to an omron CPM2A serial port for programming and data transfer. Using a usb to serial adaptor and a blackbox connecting cable. The operator of the equipment had a failed ac power plug that powers the plc and changed it reversing the hot and neutral lines. the result was when connecting the plc to laptop it blew out adapter, plc, and laptop. apparently it sent 115 volt ac via ground into usb port of laptop. Laptop appears to try and power up but shuts down after a few seconds. Any repair possible or do i need new motherboard.

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
                  by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

Friend messed up my laptop motherboard while working on my bench
                  by Geeker007
                  Hi All,

So my friend was visiting and he wanted to use my solder bench to solder on some WLED circuit board. My laptop was open on the side for RAM upgrade. I know my mistake.

So while soldering he had too much solder on the soldering iron tip and he just shook off the soldering iron on the table itself to remove extra solder on the soldering tip and it landed on the motherboard of laptop. He then out of fear tried to remove it using solder wick and did more damage by removing some components as well. So here I am with weird situation.

                  I have not tried putting...

I have a dead laptop with mainboard model GS452/552/752 nm-c781 rev 1.0, i have initiated troubleshooting with the use of digital multimeter. checked voltage signals up to PM_SLP_S3#, found out that before PM_SLP_S3# signal , a PBTN_OUT#_R signal has 3.2 volt state and after pressing power on, PBTN_OUT#, It drops to logic level zero for around 12 secs and then back again to 3.2v for 6 secs. it will loop like that until you pulled out the adapter power. during loop the PM_SLP_S3 and S4 SIGNAL has no output. (0 volt ) may i ask for help to anyone with this kind of board and same kind of problem....

I was trying to fix my old laptop that has stopped displaying image a long time ago. It boots up, lights light up, fan spins but no image. Conned it to TV by HDMI cable, but it was unsuccessful. Components look intact, no water damage/corrosion on the board.

I don't really value this laptop too much, so I wanted to ask anyone for a schematic/boardview file or anything that describes motherboard in a simillar faison. I want to experience a challenge of figuring...
