NO. I polymodded the CPU vrm

the PSU (even though it had OST's) looks fine

    I know polymodding PSUs in a no-no

So I got the new chip. The lady got a Celeron G1610 /w 4gb ddr3 1333, which whips the piss out of Winxp. Seriously that thing works so damn fast on only a WD blue. Using Sata 3, NCQ, AHCI, the fucker is faster than any windows xp i've ever been on

the chip she had was a Prescott 3.2 478 (on an Abit IC7 MAX3). Unlike the northwood 3ghz, which ran at about 49C max, the bios adjusts the voltage properly on this chip. But boy it runs amazingly hot. Prime 95 for the past few mins it has been maxing at 73C. Further research reveals prescotts run very hot. I'm about to temptest the newely poly recapped VRM. It is burning to the touch

edit: yeah the temp gun shows the VRM running about 86C

Re: how do I polymod this?

yepp those preshotts actually need a heatsink that can handle quadcore, hexacore or better cpus. even core 2 quad extremes dont run as hot as a preshott.

u got a really nice socket 478 board there! one of the best 875p boards out there. wish it was possible to slap a thermaltake big typhoon, noctua nh-c14 or prolimatech genesis on it to keep all the surrounding components cool for a long lasting board but unfortunately those heatsinks dont fit a socket 478...

Re: how do I polymod this?

the sucker had a heavy pure copper thermaltake sink. Unfortunately, as usual, the NB fan quit, though the VRM fan still works, oh yeah and no backplate :/

I have a number of 478 boards. I really don't see much of a point anymore, if you can get a DDR3, 1155 board (built fairly well. I got an asrock board with all nichicon polys-I think nichicon, maybe UCC, but they weren't FP cap or apaq polys) and a Ivy bridge celeron (for $49) that whips the piss out of pretty much anything P4 and all core 2, why go for selling someone a P4?

the only thing unique about this shuttle is its size, I plan on making it a loner if a customer needs a computer and theirs is dead. Small, portable, not quiet, heh. I manually bumped the voltage down to 1.3v and it maxed at about 68C under prime95 and was stable. I must admit it does need a better fan, I oiled this one and its still a bit slow

well i do see a point with antique hardware especially since i have legacy games that wont run right on xp/vista/7/8. i still have win98se for running those legacy games but with networking disabled of course for security reasons. lol~

Re: how do I polymod this?

nah its just some games that have the multi threading bug and wont run or work right with multi core cpus or hyper threading.

also the newer nvidia forceware drivers (post 2008-ish) have multithreaded rendering which also causes problems with older games even if u use a single core cpu and disable hyper threading. only way to get it to work for me was with legacy hardware and software...

Re: how do I polymod this?

you know you can disable HT in the bios or set affinity on processes in windows xp right?

also you can make multi-threaded disabled profiles in your nvidia control panel

i tried those methods before and many other ways without success. gave up, read around internet and concluded it simply cant work unless they patch the game which they wont since its so old.

                    lol btw commander keen ftw~

than it probably isn't related to multi-threading

                      are they dos games?

no. the ones i have problems with are not dos games. i have dosbox for that. they're just games from the late 90s that were meant to run on 95/98/me. maybe i shud start another topic for this. seems like i hijacked the original topic now lol~

Hi, I have some 32 bits computer motherboards that need repair, as they fail to
                          power on.

                          Here are some examples :

(N.B. "capacitors" indicated here are electrolytic capacitors located in the onboard

                          (N.B. #2 : I could not find a 3300 microF aluminum-polymer with a higher voltage
                          than 6.3 V.)

1 - Motherboard #1 : this is an Asrock K7VT2 (socket A) that still works well. To put it on test
                          I replaced capacitors with aluminum-polymer.
