Trading in the portege

Okay, it's time now to trade in our Toshiba Portege R200. It's a good looking laptop, but too slow for what my brother needs to do these days. Thinking of getting the Dell D420 as a replacement?
Any comments on this model? I'm aware theres a D430 as well, but I can't work out the difference. I know the D420 is a Core Duo, so maybe the D430 is a C2D? I dunno. Any words of wisdom would be great.

Avoid both unless you plan on an SSD upgrade (they use weird 1.8" HDDs).

I'd go for a D630 or if you don't need 1394 or 8gb Ram, a D620.

Too big as my brother says. Got him a T43 which he refused to used because it was "too big". Wanted to get an X61 but he wont use that either because it has no trackpad. It MUST be 12.1" in size or under for him to even consider using it.

Get him a netbook then... Beggars can't be choosers.

Or get a D430 and a 1.8" PATA SSD at the same time... the 1.8gb HDDs they came with I hear were junk.

Asus eeepc 1000h. Is that any good? Friend wants to throw hers out as its had a rough life but still works fine. Nothing cracked, just missing keys on the keyboard that had nail polish spilt onto it and also a dead battery. Screen and everything else work.
