    Apple iPad problems

My wife was issued an Apple iPad as part of her job. It was already configured to work with the school wireless network. She also wants it to work with our network at home. I know next to nothing about iPads, and will not be allowed to touch it once it is working on the home network. Thus, I would like to get the configuration done without exploring the whole thing.

The iPad does detect the home network, but needs the 'password' AKA WPA key. Our home network is set up with a 63 character key with a combination of numbers, and upper and lower case letters, conveniently saved on a USB thumb drive. In setting up a wireless connection I plug in the thumb drive and copy and paste the key into the appropriate box. The iPad does not have a USB port. I tried entering it manually and was told that wasn't good enough. The chances of a typo are extremely high since the password entry panel obscures each character a fraction of a second after it is entered.

    Now I have several options.

    1. I do have a bluetooth adapter, perhaps I can link to the iPad using that and transfer the key.

    2. I could enter the key into a text file on the iPad, verify it is correct, then C&P it to the proper field. Except I have no idea what text editors are available, nor how to do a copy and paste on an iPad.

    3. Give up. I am reluctant to do this for several reasons, including the rewards for success.

Call me paranoid, but turning off the security on my wireless network is not an option.

Does anyone have information on how to do point 2?

Email the key to your wife. Have her log in at the school with the iPad and C&P the key into a text document (if iPad is anything like iPod, there should be an application called "Notes" or something like that). When she gets home, try C&P-ing the key from the note into the key entry form. To C&P on an iPad, hold your finger over a piece of text for a few seconds. It should highlight itself and you can expand the highlight to cover the entire key. Then a small box should pop up that says "Copy". Press it.

To Paste, hold your finger inside a text entry box. Another small box should pop up that says "Paste".

Best of luck with your mission, Mr. Bill.

Great idea; it led me to success using a variation of this.

Indeed, it has Notes. I entered the key in that; while the font was rather funky, I WAS able to eliminate my mistakes. Then using the process you described I was able copy it and paste it into the proper field. This time it came back indicating the connection had been made.

      Thanks for the help.
