Aren't those solid capacitors ? I didn't even know they 'could' fail in this way.. ?!

They do have a K vent in the top (the other similar ones in the photo dont).

I have never seen them vent before but clearly they can!

To answer your question. These are normal electrolytic capacitors that 'look' like polymer solid capacitors. They have a vent which solid capacitors do not have. And yes, solid capacitors do not fail in the way shown in the picture.

Well I replaced all the venting caps, but the problem I had before continues.

When I insert the XP CD before I even get the Blue pre install enviroment I get:

Inf file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 32768. Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.

Bugger! I have tried swapping ram, putting new ram in, and all this is being done in benchtest mode. Also tried new PSU and turning L1 and L2 cache off.

Hmmm, what now? Might need to buy myself a low ESR meter.....

That might be a problem with the CD, drive or the signal cable also. Check if the cable is installed correctly. If that doesn't help, try another cable, CD and/or drive, if you haven't already.
