    Is the Asus A7V8X Plagued?

    Hi everyone, first time poster.

I have a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP which started having the bad caps problem in mid 2006. After I found out about the disease, I fixed at at a local shop and worked again.

So I used it for a few months, and the problem re-appeared. The mobo died again.. I guess it can't handle heavy usage anymore. I am now looking to get a new machine (this one I got 5 years ago)...

However, my old machine is actually only missing a mobo, and I could use a secondary machine... So I began looking for a replacement mobo. I found the Asus A7V8X which I can get brand new (or so the seller claims) for $25. Not too bad to revive an old machine...

So is this mobo free of the bad caps problem? It's not the A78X-X or A78X-LA, just A78X.

    Let me know your thoughts!

Re: Is the Asus A7V8X Plagued?

I see asus boards with bad caps on a daily basis. Asus is also one of the most 'quirky' boards made today. I have a pile of them that show nothing wrong with them when I check things, but they just don't work..... No board brand is immune to having bad caps. However, if you buy it new, even if it has crappy brands, it'll likely work for a year or so before the caps actually poop out on you. When I get a new board that has known crap brands, I recap it before I ever install it. Of course, I test it first, because recapping it will void the warranty......

I'm a big ASUS fan, but as TC said, they are quite goofy. I also have a couple Socket 462 boards in a pile I have not figured out yet. Via and ASUS seem to be a bad combination.

I once owned an A7V8X, and it had all Rubycons. For whatever it's worth

I have a Asus A7V8X which is 4.5 years old. It has always been temperamental with regard to cooling. The OEM AMD Fan is a huge dust collector.

I was checking something out recently and found these bad caps! Luckily the board is being replaced with a new Gigabyte, but i will be replacing these caps shortly.
