Dead ASUS, hot capacitor, photo attached - advice please? :)

    Hi

I have an ASUS P4B266-LM (OEM for Sony) board which is totally dead (no power up).

The previous owner of board said it only boots sometimes (i haven't got it to power up even once though).

I suspect it's due to a hot capacitor (so hot that it heats up the board within a half inch radius around it). It's not bulging but the top of it's plastic 'jacket' seems to be peeling very slightly.

What do you think then - anyone experienced this hot cap thing before?

    Thanks

sony better learn from the class action for handycams full of lelon smt caps. otherwise hara kiri all around next time. last thing we need is a $3000+ vaio notebook full of sh*t.

Check your other caps also. maybe there is more work that needs to be done. Should be a nice board when it is fixed.

i remember well the ccd-f series sonys.
50-60 smt caps later and they are good again.
