Help me to Identify caps on Nvidia 8600GT

Hello guy's i need your help with capacitors on my graphic card!! I have en8600 GT that has no capacitors (somebody has removed them before card came under my ownage). Now I want to buy new capacitors and I have problem with discovering real uF and V specifications of them!!

I own this model of en8600gt

So, which one stands where?? :P Please help.. thans..

Re: Help me to Identify caps on Nvidia 8600GT

There's FIVE capacitors that I can see. PAY ATTENTION, this is an Asus card so the capacitors are put THE OTHER WAY AROUND: the + sign of capacitors goes into the hole with the filled semi-circle on the pcb, which usually signifies negative side.

The one with the RED bar is a Fujitsu functional polymer, 330 uF 16v. It's probably R7, 10x12.5mm, not that it matters that much:

You need a polymer capacitor for this, can't use regular electrolytics.

The 2 other ones near it, I can't find in the set pictures from pcpop anything but you can guess based on diameter of the 330uF 16v one.

    Looks better here: http://www.nix.ru/include/view-photo...70023&pid=2254

On this page, I think I can barely see there a 1500uF marking on one capacitor, and a 6.3v on the other.

The color of those capacitors and the top is used by United Chemi Con. A popular yet bad series of capacitors (one of the few series bad from them, otherwise it's a quality manufacturer) is the KZG series of capacitors:

The KZG 1500uF, 6.3v capacitors are exactly the same size, 10x12.5 so it seems I'm on the right track.

The capacitor near the sli connector is 6.3v, you can see it in one of the three pictures I linked at the beginning. I'm not sure which value, but it's physically smaller than the 2 near the polymer capacitor, so I would say it's probably 820uF-1000uF in value. It could be as low as 470uF, as I see other thinner caps from other brands in other pictures, but a 820uF-1000uF seems safe.

The one on the other side of the board, I really don't know. Physically, it's similar to the 1500uF/6.3v capacitors but I can't find any picture with hints. I would suggest going for 1500uF 16v capacitor just to be on the safe side.

    So:

330uF / 16v polymer capacitor (might just be able to work with an low esr electrolytic capacitor if you use a higher voltage rating, for example 330uF 35v or 330uF 50v)

2x 1500uF 6.3v low esr electrolytic (recommend nichicon hm/hn, panasonic fr, rubycon zlh, united chemi con kze)
    1x 820-1200uF 6.3v low esr electrolytic
    1500uF 16v low esr

Now honestly have no idea where you'd get these in Croatia, but you can't just use any capacitor you find in local stores.
It has to be low esr capacitors... so that's Nichicon HM, HN, HZ, Panasonic FM, FM, Rubycon ZL, ZLJ, ZLG, ZLH, United ChemiCon KZE,

Maybe Farnell.com or rs-online.com if they accept orders from Croatia.

If you can't order but have Paypal, I'm willing to mail you some capacitors from my personal "stock" at the online price you see on those stores + 2$ for stamps and envelope.

Re: Help me to Identify caps on Nvidia 8600GT

Thanks for this nice detailed explanation, you really helped me! I found at some PC service 2x caps marking 1500uF and 1x 1000uF 6.3v and I still need to find caps marked 330uF 16v and 1x 1000uF 16v. I hope that my 8600gt will work!

So that means i can use normal cap instead of FPCAP R7 330uF 16v if i go to higher voltage!?

Re: Help me to Identify caps on Nvidia 8600GT

Polymer capacitors have very low esr, about 7-10 mOhm. A 330uF 16v electrolytic capacitor would have about 50-100 mOhm, too much...

          For example United Chemi Con 330uF 16v KZE has 72 mOhm ESR... but a 330uF 35v KZE has 38 mOhm, 330uF 50v has 28mOhm

Ripple is also important, the polymer can handle 6000mA, while the 330uF 16v KZE can handle only 760mA... the 330uF 35v can handle 1470mA, which seems a good enough value for that video card's power requirements.

So theoretically, yes, you can use a QUALITY electrolytic but you should use a polymer capacitor still.

Just archiving everything related to bumpgate since most stuff has disappeared from Google. Maybe people will finally take the time to read some of it and stop shouting "reflow gpu" at every occasion but rather try to understand what the real issue is…
