    6.3v by a 16v?

    Good afternoon,

Yesterday a terrible sound came from my computer case. A 1000 6.3v cap had exploded, more precisely, a FZ83. Google it and I discovered that the FZ series are the worst shit cap on the Earth.
I have one brand new ZL rubycon 1000 16v 105°C.
So, can I replace a 6.3v cap by a 16v without any risk?

    Thank you.

Higher voltage caps tend to have higher ESR, but 16v caps are still low ESR mostly, so go ahead and change it.

Yes you may, the ESR will be a touch higher typically, but that won't affect anything as close as it will be. However, you need to replace ALL the FZ caps on your board, or you'll be doing this constantly as the rest of the follow suit.

        Thank you guys,

I forgot to say, was a vga cap, the only one FZ of my entire hardware and already replaced. Now seems to be all right.

        Thanks again.

The FZ is 1150 mA / .036 ohms. [8x12 mm]
The ZL is 1820 mA / .023 ohms. [10x20 mm]
The ZL is actually an upgrade [higher Ripple, lower ESR] largely due to the huge can size difference, though a 20mm long cap on a video card can be a clearance problem in some situations.
          .

          Congrats.
