    Gateway TA7 Main Fan Error

I turn on the laptop and after bios post I immediately get:
    ERROR
    02FA: Main Fan Error !!
!! Please turn off system and check your CPU fan !!

Doesn't even post to HD or anything.

Tried at first connecting the fan directly (always) on and doesn't work. Replaced the fan with a new one and still nothing.

    What gives?

Re: Gateway TA7 Main Fan Error

found this on net worth a try ....not exact same model but same error...

Fixed the problem of “02FA Main Fan Error” on Gateway M-6866 laptop. Computer would not boot up.

I had tried several things including removing the RAM, replacing the fan but none of them worked until....I lucked out with the fix described below.

      The Problem:
      - When I hit the start button, fan speeds up for a few seconds then stops
      - Get an error message: “02FA Main Fan Error”, “please turn off computer and check CPU fan”
      - Computer won't boot up.

      The fix:
      - Unplug the computer A/C cord from the computer
      - Remove the battery
      - Press and hold down the start button for 30 seconds (with no battery or A/C cord inserted)
      - Plug the A/C cord back into the computer
      - Start the computer as normal
-- Note that the computer may give you a message that the computer was not shut down properly, and ask if you want to start in “SAFE MODE”
      - I hit NO, and the computer started up normally.
      - After the computer fully boots up, shut it down normally
      - Disconnect the A/C cord, re-insert the battery and the A/C cord and re-start the computer
      - That is all I had to do to fix it…….works fine now.

Re: Gateway TA7 Main Fan Error

            there are some possibilities ;

            bad fan controller ic,
            bad fan,
            wire or connector probem.

anyway find the schematic and first change the fan with a good known one. if still fails search the fan control part of your schematic. first check the smd components if there is no problem then change the ic. still nothing chnged find whic ic is controlling the fan control ic. Mostly power ic. check the connection between the ics.
            hope it helps.
