    Vizio VO47LFHDTV10A - No Backlight

    Good morning all,

    I have recently received a Vizio 47" Tv model: VO47L FHDTV10A

I have done a significant amount of research lately, and still cannot figure out my problem.

    Here's the problem,

On the power supply, I had one bad capacitor with one burned coil and the surrounding area of the board was burnt (about an inch or so in diameter). I have since replaced the capacitor. Further down the line, I have replaced the two bad capacitors on the two different inverter boards with 1000uf and 35 volt capacitors instead of using 680uf and 35 volt, because I could not find them available. I was told that this would be ok. Now with a flashlight, I can see the on screen menu, but I have no backlight. I AM NOT getting 24 volts leaving the power supply going to the inverter boards!

    What do y'all think? Thanks!

We need good clear straight shot pictures of the top side and the bottom side of your board so we can see what we are dealing with.

Here are the two pictures. The blue capacitor you will see in the picture is the first one I replaced. It is that same uf and voltage as the original one.

Do you briefly get 24v when powering on, or do backlights flash on and off?

No. I do not get either results. I did however get sound. At least the last time I checked. Haha! I have messed with it several times since then!

I am getting about .2 Volts to nothing on the 24 volt pins.

Can we see the whole board? Right now I cannot tell what the P/N or version of the power supply board is being used in your TV.

Your failure point on power board seems to be around your 24v supply. I would check solder points around and on inductor. Seems you may have open due to heat

Is this the exact match of your board?

With that kind of damage chances are other components, diodes, resistors etc . were damaged and need to be checked.

dskall - Sorry, but could you please explain what you mean when you say inductor? are you referring to the small "coil" that is burnt, or do you mean something else.

budm - yes, looks to be an exact match!

Speaking of that board you found, I just realized that on my board, two the solder points right below J5 look to be soldered together! On the new board you provided, if you look at the back and zoom in, those two points are separate! Do you think it got so hot that it fused them together!?

Yes the coil that got hot and surrounding area. The area I think you are referring to look to be in parallel and the solder bridge does not affect the circuit.

Ok thanks! So would it be a good idea to completely re solder that whole coil? Anything else I should re solder to make sure?

On second look I might clear that solder bridge and resolder the area that got hot.

Budm is the expert here so follow his advice. I am a novice. I would say if you know how to check components I would check all in and around the area that got hot for other faults

Thanks dskall, I'm not very familiar with motherboards, so I can't really check the other components without instructions to be honest, but I can re solder that coil and possibly other things in that area. What other than that coil would be important to re solder?

I don't what your objective is. I just retired and am interested in learning how to repair tv down to component level. You may just want to get your tv working in which case just voltages should be enough to narrow down to what board to replace. YouTube got me started. You can watch some videos on how to test diodes etc. Which can be done with a multimeter. Budm has a lot more experience at guiding people through troubleshooting than I do.

My main objective is to fix the TV. But also learn some things along the way. Does anyone possible have a schematic for this board? That would be a HUGE help.
