thermal grease blob on a chip.

ah well point is moot now anyways..
the TCON is now broken at the ribbon connector from moving around and
positioning for photos.

i was trying to reinstall the cards for another test after removing as much of the thermal oil as possible.
if i'd seen any change at all would have answered the question most likely.
now im not sure if its worth buying a tcon just to test it.

can someone loan me a Tcon board?

i noticed i have done some damage to the ribbon connector chassis tabs at the ...TCON?
i guess thats what its called. the one that interfaces the panel.
one is pulled up and took the ..clad? with.
i figure its ground.. ?
solder a wire to it and wrap it to a metal shielding screw?

Yes, that's a ground connection there. Make sure the joints on the other pins of the connector haven't broken or cracked, though, because those are the ones that transfer data and power. If in doubt, re-solder them. Some liquid or paste flux would be highly helpful to prevent you from bridging the pins.

As far as the thermal grease - I think that should be okay. Most of the cheap thermal grease is non-conductive. If you still want to clean it all off, use alcohol and flush under the chip as well.

so does anyone think the broken chassis tab on the ribbon connector or the
thermal grease was the culprit in my loss of video?
if not then i dont think buying a tcon board is worht the risk.
time to sell the panel and PS and go buy something else..
i'm thinking just go with a 32 inch TV.
i like to sit about 4-5 feet away anyways..
