Re: Toshiba U920T dead, water damage

My guess is that the mosfet that output the voltage foe battery recieve only 8v on gate and result it output 8v . To find the problem i thing you nees to find why is 8v to gate
Just cook it! It's already broken.

Hi, thank you, I may be wrong about the 8V, I checked all the fets and there is no voltage on any pins on all 4 when the orange LED is on to say charging. Do you know what the attached chip is? it says 39A303B but I cant find anything on google for this. Pin 1 of this is heavily corroded which is 19V. Most the pins do have a few voltages on them, around 2V to 5V. Could this be the charge controller?

      Thanks

yea, this chip has no pins though, it has pads that go underneath. Is this chip for charging control, like U6000 on the L855? I would assume if this was broken then the laptop would not work at all, but it works fine just not charing

            you got problems there!

i know its a QFN chip but it needs to go to that cap!
if its pin maybe its 19v what voltage do you got on the cap?

yes the cap is 19V. I thought maybe the 19V is connecting because lots of the other pins have 2V-5V on them

you need to be 100% sure you got 19 v there.
For this type of repair i suggest a microscope.
                Cheap one.
You need to see the solder near qfn chip.
The pin1 its not the only one with problem what i saw in the pic.

Re: Toshiba U920T dead, water damage

I am going to remove it and try to resolder it, but I am not sure if this is even to do with charging. If it isn't for charging then it must be okay all ready since the laptop works fine otherwise. I wish I could find out what "39A303B" does

                    then don`t touch it!
if you can re solder it much better go for it

Re: Toshiba U920T dead, water damage

                      Hi again,

Recently I removed this chip, cleaned the pads and put it back on and it seemed to work. 13V going to the battery and it was charging, but after 1 hour the chip over heated a died, I guess it shorted. I was wrong about the model of this chip, it is a Fujitsu 39A404B (MB39A404B) I can find on ebay 39A404 and 39A404A but no 39A404B anywhere, will one of these be compatible?

                      thanks!
