    Philips BDL4620QL LED backlights teardown

Got this one in with badly damaged screen so I decided to take it apart to see how the screen is put together.
It is 46" with single edge lit LED assembly on the left side of the screen.
The LED assembly seems to to be well made with very large heatsink for the LEDs compared to what I see on other SAMSUNG, VIZIO, LG screen.
It has 6 LED strings, 12 LEDs per string, 72 LEDs total.
The supply Voltage is 76VDC, each LED string is sink through power MOSFETs (6 total) and current sensing resistor for each each string.
The LEDs are very bright, I will see what I can use it for.

    Interesting.

Set is actually made by TPV (Top Victory Electronics) of China. Hence the junky ELITE capacitors on the power board.

It seems most LED sets do not have thermal issues with the LEDs, but rather it's a die bond failure event (I read something on this recently.) This is just a random failure but because they are in series the whole chain dies (most LED sets will cut the backlight when any one string goes open.)

It's good that they've got a decent heatsink, but they are dumping a lot of heat behind the panel. Could this cause early source/gate driver failure?
