FreeNAS is meant for storage, so you really shouldn't need to run programs off of it.
I understand, sometimes it makes it easier to run prime95 or cpuz or one of the other dozen simple programs. Personally I don't think anyone is going to attack my home server that sits behind a pfsense firewall and iptables on the server and it doesn't broadcast to the wan, and everyone that uses my server, I trust.
BTW I don't run freenas, I'm familiar with FreeBSD and I know freenas uses a port of samba. Freebsd is based off of unix and linux is similar to unix command structure.
