Adding AC Adapter to Battery Powered Device

I have this Exercycle's computer that runs on Alkaline 1.5V Batteries. I cant seem to get it to run on any of my 1.2V rechargeable batteries, the device malfunctions.

So I was thinking is there anyway I could solder wires and connectors to give it an option to be run with a DC adapter? Maybe grab a cheap ebay 3VDC Adapter and solder the points?

That should work perfectly. Some places also sell adapters that fit into a 2AA holder and have wires coming out, but those are hard to find.

Typical non-regulated linear power supply will put out more if the it is not load up to the load current spec, so for 3V adapter will put out about 5V, you need to check. You can use dropping resistor if you know what the current draw of the load is.
