Re: kt7a-raid recap
I don't want to buy any new ones so I'll see how long the TEAPOs survive. This board is meant to serve in a freevo box, which won't be used that much anyway and which is properly cooled, so I expect them to serve for quite a while.
Thanks for your reactions!...

kt7a-raid recap
Hi all,
A few weeks ago, I bought a second-hand kt7a-raid, with bloated caps. I did this knowingly, as I knew this board is absolutely great, and because I still have some hardware which ran on my now dead and dumped MSI board and which I didn't want to sell. So I thought I'd give it a try. The board didn't run smoothly, so I started searching for replacement caps. Before turning to electronics shops, I sent an email to Abit in the Netherlands (the service centre for my region; I live in Belgium), explaining the situation. To my surprise, they reacted really quickly and without...

buy second-hand abit kt7a-raid?
Hi,
I'm still looking for a replacement mobo for my failed MSI k7t pro 2a, which I gave up after its caps started failing serially. I also couldn't unsolder some caps which were in a difficult position to extract from the board (caps between two pci slots).
Anyway, I've got the chance of buying a second-hand abit kt7a-raid. I've just emailed the seller to ask which caps are on the board, but the info on this site and forums tells me that they will probably be crap. The seller assures me that it is still running rock-solid. Is there any chance that this mobo will...

Re: MSI 6330 (K7T Pro)
Okay, thanks for the quick reply.
Do you have any idea why would they all blow right now? Do they tend to fail in series, or is it perhaps because of the heat, or because my PSU may be a bit too light? I just noticed it is a 235W one, not 300W, and that with 2 hd's, 2cdroms, agp video, 2x256MB RAM, network card, sblive and athlon 1.1GHz.
Is there any way to tell if the caps have caused a shortcircuit on other parts of the mobo? I don't see any burns on the mobo. Are CPUs easily subject to failure with bad caps?

MSI 6330 (K7T Pro)
Last week I had two bad caps, 6.3V 2700uF brand: Chhsi, near the AGP port. I replaced them last Wednesday and all (i.e. browsing and a little text-editing) seemed to go well. My pc has only been on for a couple of hours after the first problems.
The same badcaps symptoms occured just now. I was working as the screen went blank and a reboot failed. No visible damage to the board, but the only thing I can see is that a couple of the 9 1000uF capacitors seem to bulge a little. So it appears that I have to replace all of the bleedin' capacitors.
I have another idea though....
